What it takes to earn Elite in Exobiology ~ A path made from 500+ selfies

It takes a great many scanned lifeforms to earn Elite! Check out this slideshow of start to end in a journey around the Galaxy. This three year project is now complete. I'm now working for Elite V, but I'm only going to take a few selfies with the more interesting lifeforms for now on. Enjoy! Oh, and there is additional content in the video throughout, so be sure to watch to the end (I know they always say that).

Congrats.
I'm currently an ecologist almost a geneticist.
Not long to go hehe. Jus keep getting distracted by PP and bgs bubble stuff

I started my Exobiology path on an AspX, but got to Elite with a Hauler.
On my way up there, I didn't mind bacteria (only realised much later that most of them were worth just 100,000 Cr when first discovered, which was close to nothing), but I learnt to hate Fungoida Setisis.
You have plenty of pictures with them, and I winced at each of them, unintentionally 😆

My Adder can land on a dime, like almost literally. I wouldn't have that many if I wasn't carrier-based with my Adder.

Geneticist myself currently. Fungoida are certainly the annoying ones.
Currently at Oya but heading out for a bit once it goes pop.

There was a recommendation in the forums a year ago or so to use a small ship to do Exo work so I switched to my Hauler as my Sidewinder wasn’t on board my FC the Hauler took me through the stuck time following the rework of Exo payouts and progress to Elite and then remarkably quickly to Elite 1.

Bacteria were always an annoyance as depending on how bright the world was and the contrast between the bacteria and the dirt they either stood out or were almost impossible to see. Setisis was a pain because of where it liked to grow but out near Colonia and the core I was surprised and then delighted to find it on flatish upland areas with easy landing close by, as I came back to the bubble they returned to their evil ways.

The sidewinder fuel tank is small, making scanning bio in a large system with many planets frustrating. Also, if you get distracted (phone call, door bell, whatever) the sidewinder's fuel can easily get used up. Possibly resulting in frustrating disaster.

Also the sidewinder flips over tumbling uncontrollably if you skim the ground.

Personally I like the Eagle MK2 and the Viper4. Small, good cockpit visibility, and ship performance.

Good point about the fuel issue, I have an extra 2 tonne fuel tank on my Hauler and it vanishes alarmingly quickly sometimes.

That's why I like the Adder. I don't have to worry about fuel and I can go on fairly long excursions (20 to 40 jumps) from the carrier. Again, it can almost literally land on a dime. The gating item that determines when I need to return to the carrier is my SRV's fuel and damage, assuming I don't restock and repair (which I typically won't do since those things are free at the carrier).
