what kind of places do you find platinum?

Found platinum in Metallic belts. I only ever mine Metallic, so no idea if it is more or less common, but seems very rare indeed.

It halves the time to mine out all the chunks, assuming you have enough juice to run them both constantly. You spend more time nom nomming the chunks than blasting them off though (especially at first) so it is of minor benefit.

So i have a problem, the place I am at has belts but i don't see them on navigation? only resource extraction sites...

what do you mean "at least at first"? I mean you always have to scoop them up right? Or am i missing something here?

I suspect he means that "at first" you spend more time running around chasing chunks than you do later once you have figured out how to chip them off in a nice stream that you can just sit and gobble up as they come to you.

The only place I mine are metallic, pristine reserves, belts or rings. I only mine platinum, palladium, gold, and maybe silver if the % is high enough that it doesn't take many chunks, usually set one bin to be the junk collector so I don't have to vent after each chunk, ie 25% platnum %12 gallite, collect the gallite in a spare bin, but vent when i switch asteroids. No need to clog up my hold with "worthless minerals"

You will find Platinum in places like this but be warned, long term mining will not only make you bleed from the ears but it will also turn you into a raving lunatic as you hunt through a thousand Asteroids for that one perfect platinum mother lode and always with the certain knowledge that one big mistake on your part and it is an expensive visit to the insurance office... For real money trading is the way to go
