What Makes you Jump In ED?

Last time I really jumped while playing ED was when I was just making my routine landing at planetside station and suddenly a skimmer fell over my Beluga with loud boom, collapsed my shields, ripped through my hull and totally destroyed my ship. All in few seconds! I stared the rebuyscreen few minutes thinking what the heck just happened.

dropping in from witchspace on top of a neutron star, or the one time I ended up in the middle of 3 very close stars.

having an NPC drop in from SC almost on top of me.

Jump into a binary system, especially class O/B, where the temperature goes up very rapidly. Happened only twice in 500Kly.

Or once I jumped through a class F star which was direct in front of the class A main star. I don't actually know whether I went through the star, it was way to fast and scary.

And, of course, interdictions without warning. lol

Fly/land safe.

Impossible stuff like a Neutron Star, White Dwarf or Black Hole circling around a Same aged Star or even a T Tauri or within a few Ls'.
Or several Stars within entry point range.

So tonight I'm exploring the outer edges of the Perseus Arm, next door to the Formidine Rift, jumping, exploring, jumping, scooping... I've been out here for a few days now...

...And tonight I managed to jump right on top of a neutron star.

I'm not new to neutron stars, having catalogued 900 or so of them, but seeing one unexpectedly after days of OBAFGKMs made me jump and nearly yank the throttle off the desk in the act of making sure I didn't get any closer! :D

I once came out of a jump in the jet cone of a neutron star. That was not pleasant.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Can't say I jump too much when playing Elite. I suppose only when I'm playing in Open and I see a hollow contact on the radar. ;)

Same as some of the others, honk scan jump, honk scan jump, honk scan jump...what who when how the hell omg, you know the moment when you jump and come out and see the edge of a star zipping past your left hand side, or right or both at the same time.

Bar that not much else dont have to worry about other people even if I was in open right out on the outer arm.

Absolutely nothing. I play ED when I want something boring to play when I have a hangover or I'm too tired for anything that'll require me to think or press many buttons. It's really not a game to give me any surprises.

I think that ED is famed for its mundanity.

There are two things that startle me, the first being the obvious instance of flying through a star in a binary system (in VR it's surprisingly startling).

The second is when you have some NPC after your "tasty cargo", but he's too far behind to catch you, so you drop out of supercruise at the station and get ready for docking and BAM! an NPC Anaconda jumps in about 50 meters off your bow and you have to swerve around it in the split-second you have to react to it. Last time it happened I was lucky to be in something nimble enough (most likely my FdL) to dodge it, but I probably missed hitting the hull by about 5 meters.

That feeling when...
You boost toward a target looking to get a bunch of hard strafing hits before you flip around when... you think may may have misjudged the angle, and you realize that you're not strafing past but INTO the target.

BOOP!
