Horizons What minor changes/features would you like to ask from FDev ?

Hey guys, like the title suggests..... What minor changes would you like to see implemented into the game ?

For me personally:
- Customizable dashboard layouts. I would love the ability to move/remove certain parts from the dashboard. Primarily, I'd remove the Comms section on the top left and put the Navigation tab up there so I can see Signal Sources, or even the Contacts tab in it's place.

- Would love to see more variety of surface terrain. Maybe add some caverns, caves, cliffs with steep drops or even hanging cliffs

- Improved Missions. Add some Escort missions in. Things like meeting a Type9 or Type 7 ship, Nav Lock onto it and escort it safely to another system. You loose the mission if he dies or takes a certain damage.

- Better ship explosions. Especially if it's being destroyed because of Power Plant failure. Something like a small explosion at the Power Plant followed by a cascading explosion outwards from there.

Im sure some would be easier to implement than others.... but all these minor little updates would add so much more enjoyment to the game.

I'd like to see some sort of highlight or marker in the mission and passenger boards that have the same target or destination as missions i have already taken. In other words, highlight missions that synergize (stack) will my active missions.

I would really love to see mission reward screens leave subtle hints that lead further to radiant quests that reward gumshoe CMDR's with unique, one-off discoveries, such as:

- The final mission sends the CMDR to an undiscovered system for him to mark as his own exploration accomplishment;
- A secret station that offers particularly insane commodity prices traders can't say no to;
- A honey hole that provides a fair amount of rare mats as a mission reward; or
- Goid lore that will further flesh out 2.4

  • Simple virtual keyboard in Galaxy map at least
  • Negation on mission prices.
  • I also miss the comms vids in stations from Elite: First Encounters
  • Some of the more unique ship designs like the Saker, Osprey X, Mantis and Lynx

Minor quality of life features such as;

1. When you target a material from a destroyed ship or USS for scooping it would be nice if it showed you how many you currently have in your inventory without having to flip back and forth checking

2. Cruise control to destination that automatically slows you down in SC when you get close. This should be somewhat less efficient than doing it manually of course so there is an incentive for actually flying your ship

3. Some sort of API that I can send/receive messages through to other applications such as IRC or Discord for example in the comms panel instead of having to flip back and forth

4. Customizable HUD/dashboard colours in-game (instead of editing config files)

5. Allow route plotting to take into account the initial boosted jump from synthesis or neutron boost and continue with 'normal' jump range after instead (or is there already a way to do this? I haven't figured it out)

Couple of minor changes I would like to see (mainly due to the fact I think they would make life easier for me)

1. docking computer is key activated (ie like FSD) instead of automatically activating when speed reaches drops.
(sometimes I don't always want the docking computer taking over when I am manually aligning, and don't want to have to manually deactivate the module just to achieve this)

2. Landing radar overlay activates on lowering landing gear when docking rather than just above the pad.
(I know the compass shows the position of the pad, but would like a larger display that's easier to follow.)

3. Modules like discovery / planetary scanners and docking computer etc fit in utility slots instead of the internal module slots.
This would still have negative points by restricting the number of shield boosters / defense modules you could fit in exchange for having these fitted instead.

Like many others, I would like the Type 9 to receive an additional size 8 or 9 slot, restricted to cargo racks, in order to make it the premier cargo ship that it should be.

#2 already happens in game. When you are flying to a station in supercruise, just put your throttle just below the middle of the blue section of the throttle bar and it will automatically slow you down and tell you when it's safe to jump out of supercruise. Or were you referring to something else ?

As for #3, I think that would be a great feature, but I also think people would abuse it by spamming crap/ads across the comms from within other apps. They can't do that now because it would take too long to write that "message" to each person.

Transfer some of those green trees from stations to planet surfaces.
Manual control of in-system supercriuse. ( example: 200,000 LS from star to planet. No planetary bodies between. At present speed can reach 600C. Then when you are 5 to 3 thousand LS from destination supercruise slows down 50/40/30 C.)

This slowdown is not necessary. EG: See a USS at the halfway mark, shut throttle to zero and you slow down real quick to check it.

1. +2 more small hard points added to the top of the Federal Corvette between the currently placed small hard points and the bridge; and shift the large hardpoint on the bottom forward closer to the front of the ship for better panning, range and placement to attack enemies.
2. Ability to pick up floating cargo in space without having to first target the cargo.
3. A menu screen within the first tab of the right sided menu that can access the System and Planet/Star/etc scans that are captured while exploring.
4. In game setting menu category to change the colors for the control board in the ship, menus, and data information on the ship screen
5. An export feature in game, rather than having to rely on secondary API software, to upload ship statistics, modules, cargo and trade routes/commodity values/commodity trades to approved third party software (Coriolis, INARA, etc).
6. Additional controls for turrets to enable to you tag/attack more than one ship (but not restrict you to random firing of any ship)
7. Better aggro tables for CZs, so that I can attack more than one ship without having to aggro every ship that I attack (even if i only shoot the ship for a half of a second it attacks)
8. Better ship AI NPC combat ships in CZs. They tend to cluster, in one area until all ships are destroyed before moving to another area,;even if there is only one ship left in the immediate area (within 3km) to attack. This way you don't run into situations where there are 20 ally ships attacking one enemy ship within a 3km range, while there are 5 or more enemy ships more than 3km away attacking only one or two ally ships. The AI with respect to placement and overall tactics in CZs is the same as it was years ago upon release. While the AI has improved for one on one combat, the AI has not improved whatsoever in overall tactics in CZs.
9. Add ship launched fighters to both the Python and the Federal Assault Ship (since the latter is exactly the same as the two other ships, Drop and Gunner with respect to its physical dynamic), the Python should also have the benefit of the ship launched fighters due to its size.
10. Add one or two military modules to the FDL in the core modules category. After all, it is a predominantly focused medium sized heavy fighter, not really a multi-class, so it should have one or two military modules to add Shield Cells, Module or Hull Reinforcement Modules.
11. A history log in the Galaxy menu that informs you and enables you to access up to the last 20 systems visited.

Those are a few minor changes I would like to see implemented in game.

Minor ? Holy Crap, you're talking about a major overhaul. All of that changes gameplay and the balance of power of entire ships.

I do like the last one though, to some degree. It would be nice to tag 2 systems/stations for easier trading. For example, Tag 1 station in the first system, then tag another station a few jumps away, and set up a permanent trade route where you can fly back and forth without having to plot a route each and every single time.

#3 is also a good one. The ability to see what systems/planets you've scanned :)

Actually just remembered one other thing I'd like to see, kind of borrowed from the X series of games.

Video enhancement goggles, something so you can visually enhance distant objects probably more useful for scouting out planet surfaces than anything in space due to scanners.

- in-game customizing HUD colors
- different HUD layouts for each ship manufacturer (but all function the same, looks only)
- select long/lat on planet maps to add a destination marker
- system map toggle that will re-arrange system bodies so that they line up according to distance from your current location (or an orrery but....)
- more traffic in high population systems, less in low pops...
- black hole and giant stars graphical updates - we know Betelgeuse is not a perfect orange ball

Atmospheric landings of course - all non-earth-like worlds please...

For #2 it might best be explained given an example.... when travelling to a planet/station a LONG way away (let's say Hutton for example), you want to go full throttle and then maybe leave the cockpit for a while, make a cup of tea... fix a drink, have a nap....etc.., it would be nice if it would drop you out of SC (or slow to zero throttle) when it got close, so you don't fly past at 1000c+ and off into deep deep space. Not a huge thing, just a little quality of life feature really.

For #3 I see your point, abuse is possible. Might be tricky... this is mainly something I would like for fuel ratting so I don't have to overlay my IRC window on-top. Incidentally... does anyone know of an IRC client that has the native ability to be on-top and entirely borderless? I'm using hexchat with AHK to achieve this somewhat, but there is no way to entirely remove the border, so I have an ugly box around the IRC chat window in my top right. If I could remove the border then the text would just 'float' there it would be lovely. Discord can do this for example... (built in feature), but have not found an IRC client that can.

Agree with #1... would love a key binding to request docking as well, so I could map it to voice attack too.

For #3 yes, OR perhaps it would be nice if we could reconfigure larger internal slots to house multiple small items. I often have a size 2 item in a size 5 slot on my Anaconda... what I waste of space! Imagine if you could split them... minus 1 space for the extra bulkhead. A size 5 space could become two size 2's for example.

1. When targeting something in supercruise, the ability to select "Align" so the ship will automatic align to the target until you steer the ship, if steering the ship, it breaks, this way you can relax more while traveling. Can't aligh to target behind huge objects, such as sun, planets and moons.

2. Able to set maximum amount of materials and data you have at a maximum, so it automatic discard them or limpets ignore to pick them up, if you already have max amount of that material/data. For an example: If you have Max Sulfur set to 10, it will never pick up and if you end up getting one anyway from mission reward or such, it automatic discards it to keep you having the amount you want, in this case 10.

3. No longer need to charge jump drive when in super cruise when jumping to another system if there is no ships within a certain distance from your ship or too close to a star. (This will make traveling more enjoyable and remove some of the unnecessary time sinks)

4. When jumping to a system, if you can't refuel at that star or not having a fuel scope, or having it disabled, you no longer end very close to the star, instead you end up a bit away from it. (So not generating tons of heat when jumping and helps suggestion number 3 to execute better)

5. Increasing acceleration/deacceleration a fair amount when in super cruise to make it more enjoyable.

hey guy's

what i would like to see is

1. that i can sell the left over materials gathers for engineer upgrades, instead of discarding them

2. that i can sell left over or not use able Data

3. the good old military drive out of earlier Elite Games

4. that i can choose between local / all stored equipment

5. that i can turn on / off ( engage / disengage ) the Landing Computer with a Key stroke and not only by powering down, and that the Landing Computer finds the route / fly's to the Station selected

6. that the time in hyper jumps ( system to system ) gets reduced to 5-10 second, instead of the 20+ as it is right now

7. that an engineer increases the take in value of a fuel scope ( by 10-15% maybe ), not only this light weight option

8. any unlocked Engineer show's ALL the equipment they are able to upgrade ( with level unlocked maybe ), instead of just the pinned one

9. instead of the engineer's rng roles, why not have the engineers give a specific out come for a certain amount of materials ? as example, FSD 10 mat each give 20lys range, 20 give 40lys etc ( or similar )

10. please put back those arrows on the cube station when in sc, to find the entrance easier

- Trade missions not to be AS nerfed... still nerfed but not this bad!

-actual warning of Ceasefire in conflict zones...

- warning zones for Capitol ships, Not be lit up like a Christmas tree first and questions asked later.

-More intense conflict zones, more Capitol Ships (even be so bold as to add different types) Just like the opening scene of Star Wars III...yeah that sort of epic. not just some y face off between one or two ships.

-Build Surface Bases so that I can actually have a home...not just drift space for all eternity. yeah, I went there.

- Make the grind for naval ships slightly less grindy....add more ships perhaps. But Please for the love of elite don't make it easy!!! I still like a challenge.

-More SRV types!!!!

-Alliance Navy!!!
