What mods work best/are you using?

I just got my Rift setup with my X55 HOTAS and I'm loving it. I wish I could transfer all my stuff from Xbox like reputation and engineering materials but that's another matter.

It is truly amazing in VR, even compared to Xbox on my 133" screen, and if anyone is on the fence I would recommend switching.

However, I have searched this forum and need some help. I am moving form the Xbox where we have zero mods to the PC. What in game mods do you use so that you don't have to take your headset off?

1) How do I use the equivalent of EDDB.io or Inara in VR to find ships, modules, bodies etc.
2) Is there a good mod that works in VR for tracking engineering mods
3) How do you go about adding a system name to galaxy map when you find the system you are going to.
4) Are there any other mods that make life easier in VR?

Thanks for your help

well, there are definitely some suggestion that can really expand your VR ED experience:

First, visit this subthread which will get your 85% of where u want to be - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/220-Released-amp-Active-Player-Tools

Next, two tools u will need to buy (though very cheap for what they provide:
- VoiceAttack
- OVRdrop - allows for semi-transparent window to your desktop/other apps in VR space (looks like its a panel native to ED cockpit). I use it to show a side panel of TCE, G19, Inara, etc... and I show/hide the panel via VoiceAttack!

With VoiceAttack, you can use EDDI, and some other community based VAP profiles to add all the voice controls necessary to do many things such as call for docking, add systems for GalMap plotting, etc..

Note, there is only one ED "mod" that I prefer in VR, which is the Dust Buster mod: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-space-dust-removal-mod?highlight=dust+buster

this mod basically removes the dust flyby. I use it to remove dust in Supercruise since it is too much in VR and kills the view. In normal space I keep dust as it provide visual reference for thruster travel.

All in all, there are some great ones to complement VR. Key is to pick off the Released Player Tools above, and then VA and OVRdrop.

Player tools recommendations:
1) G19
2) TCE
3) EDDI
4) EDMC
5) ED Profiler

PS: to complement G19, be sure to get all the free Windows TTS Voices! Quite cool to have all messages/dialog voices including CMDRs from both female/male multiple nationalities/dialects! No more need to read the messages in the top left area!

that covers it!

Great thanks, just to clarify, any HUD mods will work, they don't have to made specifically for VR?

I was going to setup Voice Attack and buy one of the Voice Packs, the Q one sounds fun. I will definitely check these out.

when u refer to HUD mods, are u referring to changing color? ED Profiler works for that and supports VR. Plus, its a great tweak tool to get ED looking just right in VR.

As for the Voice Packs, recommend saving money and simply getting the free Windows TTS pack(s) (or rather, get these first to try them out - must have for G19, but can try for your primary EDDI responder as well). I use Hazel and she sounds great as a female British voice for all Voice Attack response dialog. Complements well with in-game female voice.

The cereproc voices are also good. I used to use Caitlyn with voice attack and eddi. But I’ve recently picked up Celeste and was excited to see that she’s also a COVAS as well, so I’m using that. The only thing I miss about not having EDDI is that Caitlyn would tell me during hyper jump if my destination was scoopable or not

Cereproc usually have sales on their voice packs, so keep an eye on their site.

Great advice, but if you own a Rift there is no need to use OVR Drop, Oculus provide this functionality to Rift users natively via Oculus Dash. In fact, OVR Drop doesn't work correctly with the Rift any way.

This is true. Oculus has Dash, but there is Hello V which works with Steam and Vive in VR and it's free. Just be prepared for some quirks though. Although the Dash has its own quirks as well. :)

If you need to see a window while in ED:VR for SteamVR OVRDrop is probably your best bet. For me any data I need or websites I just bring up Steam Dashboard and use the Web feature. You can set it up in Big Picture if that's easier for you and then make those sites your favorite. Thats what I'm doing right now until someone comes up with some really ground breaking stuff!

I would not consider describing Hello v as 'working'.

It's a terrible hack job at the best of times and even just while exploring and supercruising 99% of the time it would introduce a terrible performance hit with random stutters to boot.

Thanks for all the advise, I installed them all and got them working (mostly) outside of ED, but have a few questions.

1) How do you start them all up, is it just a case of starting Elite via EDprofiler then running each one individually.
2) I can't for the life of me figure out VA. I'm going to check their support this weekend, but I bought the Kirk HCS bundle and can't see how to import it. And I can't even find the installation directory to read the read me file
3) Is EDProfiler -> Frontiers Launcher -> ED the best way to start ED for the Oculus?

The question you need to ask yourself is do you want to use Oculus Dash and be able to pin windows / use the touch keyboard without being taken out of your cockpit. If the answer is yes, then you are best off installing Elite in Oculus Home and launching the game from there. No other method of launching the game provides seemless mode for Dash.
