What motivates an Elite V explorer to keep exploring?

imo the exploration should be savored, not rushed or done for a badge or credits. I've only done a little over 57,000 jumps and over 800 first foot falls and haven't thought about the rank until this post. what motivates me? the tranquility and peacefulness of deep space, being the first to see a planet, a new system or even a new bio, just checked and I've first logged over 500 bio's. I don't care for the "prestige" or bragging rights, I do it for me, I've walked on over 1100 planets alone. we've just got back to the bubble yesterday from a 60,000ly trip and prepping to go out again. true explorers are a different breed and unique in their own right. and I agree with those above, change your routine around a bit, enjoy something different, another activity or another game or even real life

I believe they have same motivation as I do not exploring: they do not care about badges or medals.

I became elite trader accidentally just by checking how asteroids explode during void opals mining.

I got Elite V in trading by doing some stupidly high paying trade CGs

To me, there are two things that still keep me exploring:
- I want to find a GGG
- I have enough of the Bubble every now and then

There is also a nice to have that I may achieve in a long enough time: Elite V in exobiology.

But once I'm back to Black again, I remember how I love exploring and very glad I'm still doing it. It's even easier than before since fdev fixed supercruise planets visibility issue some time ago. :love:

There are several ways you can approach exploring:
  1. Set yourself a goal. Give yourself something to aim for. The game itself won't really do that for you, you have to take what it provides and set the goal yourself. Examples are:
    • Travel out as far as you can in one direction.
    • Visit every region in the galaxy
    • Follow a set route e.g. Cannon Challenge
    • Visit interesting places that others have discovered e.g. GEC
    • Collect every variety of bio. Elite Observatory and bioinsights, together with bioinsight codex companion will help with this.
    • Create a library of stunning screenshots.
    • Join an organised expedition.
    • Get to Elite V. Personally I would just let this happen. Its incredibly slow going. Tools like EDDI or Elite Observatory will help you identify the high value bodies to scan.
  2. Amble around and take what you find. The important thing here is to recognise what is unusual in the Elite galaxy and what is mundane. The Observatory Explorer plugin that comes with Elite Observatory will announce unusual things in the system as you discover them. This approach is very relaxing, but can be frustrating when you find nothing special for a while.
  3. Do a methodical search. This needs some knowledge of things like boxels and you need to be organised. Again you need to have a target of what you are looking for an knowledge of what is unusual.
  4. Do other activities while you explore. This is more difficult because you will spend a lot of time in the black. You could do targeted expeditions to a point in the galaxy and then return back to civilisation to do another activity, or you could invent activities to do while in the black. For example:
    • SRV acrobatics
    • Bio collecting
    • Circumnavigating a small body
    • Material collecting
    • Photo or video making
The important thing is to know why you are exploring, what is unusual, and what to look for. If you just consider star systems as a large ball of fire surrounded by a number of rocks then you are going to find everything fits that criteria and is therefore they are the same.

I became Elite V as soon as they introduced it. My motivation is simple: we havent found .... yet. Only 0.1% of the galaxy is known to us.

I found an earth in the barycenter of two black holes. Before this discovery nobody even knew something like this was possible. It became a tourist destination.

There are also still guardian ruins out there. IGAU is starting an expedition in september. Guess where I will be....

Do I feel like giving up trade?
No, I enjoy it.
