What pedals are you using?

I've recently acquired myself a HOTAS setup and I think that in order to do it justice I'll need pedals. I'm used to having analogue yaw and I'm really missing it a lot with my HOTAS (old setup was an xbox controller).

So, I was wondering; what pedals do you use for Elite, and would you recommend them?

CH Pro Pedals- better built and more sturdy than the Saitek options, but cheaper and less problematic to obtain than the MFG Crosswinds (can get them from reputable retailers). Yes, I love them, now I am used to them, and would cheerfully recommend them.

They're not rudder pedals, though, so feel odd for flight :)

i'm using my cheap logitech formula force ex pedals (only two pedals), but i've never used real rudder pedals so they feel fine to me.
often i find when flying that i have both pedals semi-depressed to fly straight, and sort of balance them without thinking.

Saitek combat rudder pedals. They work. I'm happy with them. I put a piece of yoga mat on the floor under them to make them slide less and to cushion my heels.

Saitek Pro. I need to keep them loose so they don't slide all over the place when I use them. That makes them feel a bit wobbly and not center so great.

Based on the build quality of the CH stick and throttle I have, I suspect the CH pedals would have done better, even when loose.

I use Saitek Combat pro pedals, I have no issues with them they combine very well with my Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS as for them moving around if you use one of these http://wheelstandpro.com/ like I do you have no issues at all and it fits under a desk :)

Saitek Combat Pro

I'm using the Saitek Combat Pro pedals, which I chose over the CH Pro pedals because they are spaced farther apart and allow my heels to rest on the plastic ramp they provide instead of expecting my heels to be off the floor, which I find uncomfortable.

They work great so far and were very easy to set up -- I literally just plugged them in, fired up ED, assigned the axes in Options/Controls and started flying. I use four bolts through the back mounting holes which protrude downward into the rug and reliably keep the pedals from slipping around.

I sometimes use the toe brakes for lateral thrusters, but mainly just use the pedals themselves for yaw control when dogfighting and docking. I usually use them barefoot and they are quite suited for that.

YMMV. :)

CH Pro Pedals in use here.

Very rugged and the action is precise. The toe brakes can also be programed to emulate keystrokes such as landing gear or boost with the CH software.

The only downside is that the pedals are pretty close together, but that's something you get used to after a while.

I haven't spotted a tension adjust on the CH ones, but they stay put perfectly, even on carpet. They're pretty much what you expect, minimal bling and effective.

Saitek pro combat.

They suck. They broke not a month after I bought them and I had to take them apart and fix them. Nice quality plastic gears in there!

I've since ordered a set of Crosswinds.

Stick rudder from my cheap ass thrustmaster T flight hotas!
No pedals but an extra axis in the stick. Very effective! I love it!

Primarily I want to control all 3 lateral thrust axis on the pedals - is that going to work with saitek/ch style flight pedals or would I have to use the rudder action of the pedals to control they yaw (which is what I think is how they would be used in a plane)?

Do you notice the analogue nature of the controls compared to using digital buttons for thrust (or do you perhaps just push to full extent anyway)?

That might not work too well. Assuming you want to use each Toe Brake for a lateral thrust, you'll have to keep each in the center of the axis, partially pressed down.

I'm using Universal Joystick Remapper to combine the two Toe Brakes into a single axis, which I use for the forward/reverse thrust. The other axes I have on my throttle mini-joystick.

Ive been using a Stinky footpad - tried using it for thrusters but didn't like it for that - use it for extra buttons at the moment. I like it - got it when it went on sale at Amazon. Its not really a pedal setup but helps me from hunting and pecking on the keyboard.

CH Pro pedals here. They're solidly built and have good precision. Also use them (and my Saitek X-65f stick/throttle) for combat flight sims.
