What plants would you still like to see in the game?

There are still thousands of plant species that we may use well in the game. Name same of your biggest requests. I’m very curious what plants may be special for you.

I would really like to see:

- Prehistoric Wollemi pine from Australia

- Eucalyptus regnans - biggest tree from Australia

- Wellingtonia from NA

Absolutely agree regarding Cycas revoluta, Ginko biloba and the Banyan Tree. The other Plants are also awesome.

I would absolutely love Duckweed in the Game. It would look so awesome in Hippo- and Crocodile Enclosures.

I would also like a updated Version of the Banana Plant and maybe a few more Variations of it. The Stem just doesn't look like it should. I would love it if there would be a really big Version with Bananas growing on it (saw it in a Building in a Zoo once)

Strelitzia reginae would also be awesome in the Game

A Update for the Water Lily's would be great to make them recolorable

The Plants from Exhibits and Staff Rooms should be available in the Plants Menu

We also need more Flowers that aren't pink, violet or white

More tropical Trees are absolutely needed. I like the Look of Mango Trees, so I think they would be a great Addition to the Game (maybe even a really small one because of the awesome red Leaves they have in the Beginning. At least the one I've had once had red Leaves at the Start)

A Plant from the Genus Elodea would also be great for Underwater Areas

Even though someone already made one on the Workshop, I would like to see a Rafflesia

A Fig Tree would also be absolutely awesome in the Game (maybe even with a Education Board about Fig Wasps)

Ficus elastic and Ficus Benjamina would also be great

I think Mimosa pudica would also be great. Especially if they find a Way that the Leaves close when a Animal walks trough it

Good thread. Plants are always welcome, they provide so much and make each zoo unique. All great suggestions, nutrit.

I could suggest dozens if not hundreds of potential additions but I'll just mention the ones I've really wanted to put in my zoos at some point until now and couldn't. Probably being a bit Spain-biased and 'basic' here but here's what first comes to my mind:
-Plane tree (any)
-Magnolia
-Rubber fig (Ficus elastica)
-European chestnut tree
-Holm oak
-European fan palm
-Californian fan palm
-Nerium oleander
-
Stone pine
-Castor oil plant
-Bay tree
-Olive tree
-Tree heather
-Strawberry tree
-Thyme (any)

-Argania (for obvious reasons: check pic in spoiler)

Bonus: faux leafless baobab

What's wrong about basic Plants? Imagine we wouldn't have Oaks, Coconut Palms, Banana Plants and Cattails

European fan palm
Oh my God. It's so beautiful

YES!!!! because of the Picture in the Spoiler 🙃

Bonus: faux leafless baobab
I've made one out of the Pieces from the Aquatic Pack but I think I didn't upload it yet. I'll upload it to the Workshop later😉
Now that I think about it : what's with the orange Bark? They need to update those Trees.
Finally made my dead Baobab Tree public but the Steam Workshop won't show it for some Reason

Good idea for a thread!

The plants I would like to see are temperate species with a tropical appearance in order to improve the realism of displays for tropical species being kept in temperate zoos. The example species I have listed below were all used to represent rainforest vegetation in a mandrill enclosure at an American zoo. I have included the common and scientific names, wild distribution and features that made it suitable as a replacement for rainforest plants:

  • Allegheny viburnum Viburnum rhytidophylloides (North America) - large leaves with a smooth waxy surface
  • Banana shrub Michelia figo (China) - large leaves with a smooth waxy surface
  • Fiveleaf aralia Eleutherococcus sieboldianus (China) - smooth waxy leaves with a drip-tip at the end of each leaf
  • Windmill palm Trachycarpus fortunei (China, Japan and the Himalayas) - large divided leaves and the obvious palm appearance
  • Parasol tree Firmiana simplex (China) - large divided leaves with drip-tips at the end of each leaf

I don't know much about trees, so my list is quite European focused because they are the trees I know.

Australian banyan (Ficus macrophylla)

Stone pine (Pinus pinea)

Olive tree (Olea europaea)

Mexican fan palm (Washingtonia robusta)

Silver birch (Betula pendula)

Orange tree (Citrus sinensis)

Giant redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum)

I don't know many plants, but here are a few I enjoy:

Loquat - good height trees with a delicious fruit

Firebush - a strange, but beautiful flower. I have one in my yard (but that stupid freeze burned it)

Hibiscus - why not? Everyone loves hibiscus

Pitcher plants - these are carnivorous plants that have a pool of water. When the bug slips in, well...

And while I'm on the subject, how about plants that are in butterfly gardens? I only remember milkweed, but of course there are many more

Other than wanting some palmettos specifically so I can make a zoo in the Carolinas, I'm not sure I have any specific wants. Just in general more palms, more bushes, more skinny trees.

I think there is a reasonable possibility we could end up seeing this tree either in late March or early April. It would more than likely be a much simplified version of its real life counterpart, but it can definitely be done. The game uncharted has some amazing banyans in it. The foliage team in charge of Planet Zoo has always been talented, so I'm sure they can bring it to life in the game. It is an iconic tree when you think about tropical forests exhibits. The strangler fig released with the SA dlc, had great uses and possibilities, but it was completely underutilized by players, and I can understand why. To really create beautiful and realistic strangler figs with that was added to the game then, you end up using an immense amount of pieces. So I'm hoping we end up getting some official banyans from Frontier, even aerial roots, and branches would go a long way.

While the Frontier foliage team is extremely talented, I do wish their selection process was a little more well thought out. This last dlc, there were a few beautiful additions, but highly questionable when you consider the very few plants we receive in each dlc. I do understand that the majority of the players might not necessarily care about all the details involved in landscaping their zoos, but to those looking to create realistic looking zoos it can definitely affect them. Urufu1997, for example, is highly selective with his foliage selection process, while creating realistic settings, and I know there are many others in this forum that this is important to as well.

As an example in the last dlc we finally received two species of palm trees, something I had been really after since the base game was released. We received the Ponytail Palm tree, which I love not as a palm tree, but as grass, since that is how I use it and it works great. The lipstick palm tree is a gorgeous palm, and I'm very grateful to have it in the game, but after a whole year waiting I was hoping to receive a palm tree species that could be use all over the zoo map. Lipstick Palm Trees are very expensive, and hard to maintain, so it would not be realistic for a zoo to have this palm in every corner. I have high hopes for the foliage included with this next dlc, and if that fails, modders now have the ability to create separate foliage and add it to the game, so that is always a possibility.
