So many great suggestions already.
Trees
Jacaranda trees, which are from the subtropics of South America, I believe.
Coastal Redwood
Camphor (native to Asia)
Australian bottle brush
Cottonwood
Mexican fan palm
Shrubs and vines
Hibiscus. They're widespread, gorgeous, and they come in so many colors and could be one of those plants where you get to choose your own color scheme for the flowers.
Bougainvillea is another South American plant I'm surprised isn't already in the game. They come in different colors and would be a good candidate for the little palette icon that lets you choose.
Salvia (sage). There are over 900 species in this genus from all over the world--yet another candidate for the choose your color palette.
Rose bushes (so many places have rose gardens).
Jade plant
Rosemary
Flowers
California poppies (there are few orange and yellow flowers in the game right now)
Golden yarrow is a yellow wildflower that is also grown in gardens.
Coreopsis (yellow flowers)
California fuscia (red flowers)
Milkweed (genus Asclepius): there are tons of these and they come in different colors. Great for butterfly gardens.
Calla lillies
Agapanthus have pretty purple to blue flowers and are common landscape plants in mild climes.
European poppies
Lupine
Lavender
Other plants
Pampas grass (or some other tall, tussock style grasses often used in xeric landscapes)
Pitcher plants
Coleus
