PvP What PvP rules and etiquette do you work by?

As a long time EvE PvP'er we normally operate on the idea of using whatever works to kill your target/opponent.

However I've heard all sorts of things around the PvP crowd in ED.

Premium ammo synth :- Well in EvE if you don't use 'premium' (Faction ammo or T2) you are doing something wrong yet premium synth seems to get a lot of hate for whatever reason.

Reverski :- Again kiting in EvE is a perfectly valid tactic but the reverski thing seems to get a lot of salt as well. Given the ranges in ED I would see that long range combat >4km wouldn't be the most effective way to kill something...

Crimes on/off :- EvE simply killed you if you committed a crime. But the C&P in ED is way more complex and trying to add more depth. As a pirate type player i have no qualms with people who have crimes on and I dict them. I know the cops are going to come along. The toggling of crimes in a fight would have been seen as an expected tactic so not sure why there is so much salt over it.

Just trying to see what peoples thoughts are on these different things etc. Feel free to add any rules or quirks that you fly by etc.

My PvP time in ED is limited as I'm usually out flying around just having fun flying spaceships. But the call of the pew is getting stronger so I suspect I'll be getting into it more in the near future.

If its an arranged fight/duel i will turn crimes off. If further rules are dissgussed i will abide providing i feel the result is fair and dont ruin my build for example.

Other than that its jungle rules.. the more creative and sneaky the better. (Unless there is a bug or exploit thats doing the roinds in witch case i will avoid that part and would frown with intensity at any one using it in the moste dissaproving manner i could and then hiwake.)

Some times i have some make shift personal rules to spice up the day but i dont usualy expect any one else to follow them.

I do feel that some pvp practices are with out honor, such as premium ammo, but i also accept that they are legit and may be used against me.. i wish i could tell when it was being used against me, it would help as it just ups the stakes then, rather than being a secret skilless crutch. But a win with no honor is still a win. I wouldnt go and sulk if it was used against me knowingly i would just put premium ammo on if i crossed that cmdr again.
The premium ammo is expensive and laborious to aquire so its kind of flattering that some one was willing to put mats on the line to kill me, but it means i have to do the same if i want to stay competetive and i would rather just not lol

The arranged fight is sacred. Your word is your bond. Lots of basic 'courtesy rules' as you described above apply here and just make good sense.

If I'm at a place like the PvP hub at San Tu or participating in something someone else organized I go by the house rules. Not my show, so put up or shut up.

Out in the wild it's bare knuckle, kill or be killed jungle rules! :D

except plasma slugs you can premium synthesize once and enjoy forever.
(i read that on this forum)

i agree with your 'code', except the premium ammo thing. if it's in the game and can't be controlled, then it's legit. it is indeed lame but so is the whole engineer power creep, dunno what honor should have to do with that, those are the stakes you have to assume.
(i don't actually pvp currently)

Premium ammo.. A litle cheap, kinda like the same thing in world of tanks only you have to pay your time to get it, not a bad thing, but it is considered an unfair advantage.

Crimes? Generally don't give two hoots whatsoever, but when "PvPers" get salty about it then switch it on themselves, they are hypocrites and I find it massively distasteful.

Reverski is just Fing lazy piloting when we have access to the degree of movement we do. That being said, if someone is stupid enough to revers all the time, I'm going to feed them railguns until thier powerplant explodes.

Generally the ettiquette I stick with is fixed weapons, no ramming and a gg to whomever I fought.

That being said, certain people deserve the dirty tactics, which I am now just coming round to the idea of..

As far as interaction goes, I prefer just getting on with people regardless of how the fight goes, it is a game after all, however I have a VERY large amount of disdain for those who run thier mouths and act like they are gods in-game. It's quite frankly pathetic coming from grown men. Absolutley pathetic.

Play the game, be sporting, and most importantly.. BE NICE. Though I'm not going to be nice to those who make a point of being arseholes. Be a , you get treated like one. Simples.

I fly with crimes off. It's my way of paying it forward and reducing the hassle these garbage C&P inflict on players. It's fine if you attack me, I see no reason to have cops after you too just for spite. The other day I found a wanted guy who fit the description of a troublemaker so I interdicted, battled him and won. Afterwards he came back for revenge or something. I wasn't worried, round 2 sounded like fun. So he opened fire on me without penalty but when I returned fire I became wanted. Things like that are why people get irritated. It's just being a pain for no reason other than pure rudeness. It's just a crap mechanic and the cheesiness of the game is on display.

I personally don't mind the idea of some of the 'cheesiness' going on it adds to the character of things really.

Premium ammo. Well tbh if I have the mats for it I will probably use it. Unless I'm in a duel (which I generally don't agree with unless it's 'training' with a mate) then I'll use whatever advantage I can get.

Reverski is a tactic. But I basically see it as running away shooting behind you. So let them run. I can't see the point in chasing a reverski.

The problem with Crimes is simply that you can turn it off. If they simply made it on all the time then people would just get over it. TBH I'll probably run it on - again I'm very mercenary when it come to killing my target/opponents so.

But one thing I will always stand by is a GF to everyone and always be nice and polite. Just who I am. :) o7

That !

With the addition that I don't use premium ammo, cause I hate grinding for mats.
Credits are easier to get then mats, so I'd rather get killed than grind for mats.
Did I say I hate grinding for mats?

This is pretty much the best and most reasonable argument I've heard against premium ammo tbf

Crimes ON //unless dueling
I dont interdict //not that there's anything wrong with that

There are no rules in combat - its kill or be killed
I'll fight until my shields drop, then its high wake //unless dueling

CG rules -
Help noobs in the haz res / make friends when possible
If a wanted CMDR shows up, attack
If I become wanted, find nearest I.F.

My PvP etiquette.

1. Always fight the interdiction.
2. Never run away, in fact kill engines.
3. Go on comms as an indicator I'm not on a 15 second timer.

All to encourage interaction beyond point and shoot. I have started doing this 2 years ago, and so far out of 12 interdictions I have had ... no luck. So I have replaced 3. by bathroom break, make some coffee, roll a cigarette, pick my nose or check the forums.

I’m laughing my butt off. Nice.

My etiquette is that i'm there for the fight, not the kill. Therefore if i win a fight, i'll let the opponent live, except if they have a big bounty or if i have another good reason to kill them. In 1v1's i'll usually stick around to death if i'm losing, but if i'm outnumbered i don't believe they deserve the kill, and will try to escape if possible.

I only interdict pvp-fit CMDR's, even if they are from an opposing faction (i'll probably get a lot of for saying this)
