What recording of the Blue Danube Waltz did they use for the E:D Auto Docking sequence?

Said it before; I actually really like the in-game music but would be lovely to comission some new music for supercruise/exploration in Q4

I've never considered a docking computer until I found out in this thread it plays the blue Danube.

Now it's a must, curse you nostalgia.

Slightly off topic, but …

Playing the other night with the TV on in the background. At one stage there was an old movie on and suddenly I heard Blue Danube being played. I actually panicked, thought my DC had kicked in whilst I was still in SC ….. lol

Yes, I agree. I think that the music in the game is very good, but after 1200 hours of play it’s getting a bit stale. I would like to see them commission a selection of new pieces so that there’s more variation generally (playback based on chance). I think that the mood of the current music is very well judged – you wouldn’t want anything too intrusive, something Ligeti or Morton Feldman inspired would be ideal for me.

Alternatively, some kind of in-built audio player would be quite nice, one that allows you to specify a file for each context and it would integrate it into the game with fades and so on. That said, I generally prefer to absorb the atmosphere created by the art team – it always feels a bit disrespectful to me to play my own stuff – you wouldn’t do it in any other art-form (K-pop over Tarkovsky :D).

I like killing ships with docking computers.

I prefer doing it with multi cannons, sure the music is nice but with docking computers it takes so long.

And come to think of it, why exactly do hannah and hentry want custody of humanity? I wouldnt.

Docking computers like killing ships with docking computers.:D

Strange, I have DC's in most of my ships, I find them convenient as it allows me to do 'other' things during docked. Additionally it is way faster, and if someone does bump you, no penalty is received. What I have never experienced is being destroyed whilst under control of the DC. Come to think of it, I haven't even experienced any damage. Come close a few times when the DC thinks it can enter a station under the toaster rack, but it eventually stops the ship, reverses and enters normally.

Guess I am just lucky :D

If it's the same track used in the 2001 movie then it's the recording Kubrick used of Karajan conducting the Berlin philharmonic originally as a "temp" track. It's part of Elite franchise lore now due the tune being used for docking in FE2, FFE and in ED. Basically Elite's homage to 2001 for the Hilton station & PanAm clipper docking rotating scene, where the station depicts a "mail slot" (https://youtu.be/q3oHmVhviO8?t=44s) The docking computer time only plays small excerpts of the waltz. It really needs longer to appreciate it.

Yes, I'd wish they'd bring the ED composer back to compose more music for the game. (not the docking computer of course)

Dunno, but it's one of those classical pieces that far too many conductors ruin by putting too many lilting pauses in it. Night on Bald Mountain is another one.
