What reviews do you think this game will get?

Reviews from the media will be favorable (IHHO)
Reviews from players..meh, not so much based on what I am seeing in other forums as well as this one..
Word of mouth is important in todays mobile tech world.

Judging by what we have seen in the various awards and shows that ED has featured at I am not optimistic. I don't think people really get quite what has been achieved here for 8M development cost or what the game is really about, nor do people really understand what PG is capable of. Its not backed by a major publisher and its not on PS4 or Xbox which immediately will drop its rating. I am expecting some stellar reviews from one or two sources where people factor in what has been achieved, the sound and the history, because this game as it stands is a massive homage to the original Elite. What I expect to see though is that when FD move out to planet landing and FPS the game to get a huge lift off provided FD do it well, particularly if they can get it on XBox and get into competition with NMS then the rating will climb to approaching 10.

To people saying they don't care about the reviews > well obviously, you already have the game, so you don't need reviews to tell you if you should buy it. That said, I hope you see the greater picture here, and understand that biased and unfair as they may be, reviews are important for Elite because they will highly influence the sales of the game, especially since it doesn't have a big marketing budget. And depending on those sales, FD may or may not support the game long enough to release new content and expansions...

To be honest, I don't think they're gonna be that great. Unless there's a surge of content in Gamma, the lack of things to do will punish this game, I think. Once the reviewer does a couple cargo transfers, a couple bounties, scans some systems and realizes he's explored half the available options he's going to lose his enthusiasm.

I like Elite, but it has a VERY niche audience. There's no way Joe "I'm-a-writer-posing-as-a-gamer-until-my-novella-gets-published" Blow blogger at joystiq is gonna pretend he's Han Solo making the Kessel run when he's delivering Fish to Morgor.

Not so hot. They aren't delivering what they said. I'm salty about it and I'm pretty laid back and used to being disappointed by companies.
Also modern morons won't be able to wrap their minds around the game. Look at posts complaining about docking for crying out loud.

I give the game a 6 or maybe 7 right now, which is really poor, but I love the game.

First of all, I think reviewers do a great job. Overall, if they rate a game a 9 it's good and if they rate it a 6 it sucks. I like USER reviews even more and they are very accurate just like Rotten Tomatoes is good at picking good movies.

Reviewers will RAVE over the flight characteristics and the graphics but rip the game to pieces over lack of multiplayer, lack of player interactions during the game and most importantly they will consider the game BORING and extremely hard and complicated for new players.

Let's face it, aside from grinding for money to buy and upgrade ships and either killing innocents as a Pirate or killing Pirates as a Bounty Hunter, there isn't much to do in the game. The game has a lot of flash but not a lot of soul.

I would give it a 6 or 7 as of right now, but again I LOVE it but as a reviewer I would have to rate the game on how my readers would feel about it, THAT IS WHAT THEY DO, and most casual gamers would HATE THIS GAME.

World of Tanks made 370 million in it's second year, but ED will not be anywhere near that popular.

Why "hard game for the new players" considered is a bad thing? Space games are supposed to be hard. Also the popularity of the game does not mean it's the best game for me to play. This is why I'm playing ED not Angry Birds or Farmville. Dumbification of the game may generate bigger revenue for the short amount of time, but it is not the appealing factor. And do not worry, with very few space games out there and only 3 space multiplayer games ED is going to have its share of the market regardless of the reviewers. There will be enough "fan boys" who would pay for the best space dogfighting simulator ever released.

So apparently people are worried that ED will get bad reviews because there is nothing to do, lets have a look at some game reviews shall we:

World of Tanks got 8 meta and 5.1 user, I agree with the user because it sucks and if you want a game with nothing to do then here it is yet it has a huge following.

World of Warplanes got 6.9 meta and 5.6 user, as above.

Planetside 2 got 8.4 meta and 7 user, this game is terrible it's one of the worst of its kind that I have ever played with appalling netcode.

CS:GO got 8.3 meta and 7.8 user, I love this game but there isn't a lot to do is there? it's the groundhog day of video games, and the netcode is poor as well.

Eve online got 6.9 meta and 7.8 user, never played it as point click isn't my thing.

So what do we have here? games with naff all to do and sucky netcodes that have massive followings.

ED has shed loads more to do already than all of these bar Eve, and has the potential for shed loads more , more than them all put together.

So I think the reviews will be good but not spectacular, it's over time ED will become legend, the reviews don't mean naff all anyway as you can clearly see.

I have often totally gone against reviews as games only appeal to me if they seem to be offering something a bit unique or are mainly about the game play.

I tend to watch you tubes and let's plays for more realistic impressions before i part with cash.

i hope they get good reviews as it counts in the public confidence but i also think that i may not be alone these days in doing my own research as when ever i mention a game im interested in to friends they all check it out like i do or ask me to get them some links.

in the old days word of mouth did the trick and now it seems to have come full circle and the word is even more pervasive than in the original Elite days :D

sorry for the ramble but hey im old now ;)

Impossible to say until proper NPC interaction, stories and missions are fully fleshed out.

If the game stays the same as beta, just with more ships and systems (which I am sure wont be the case) I dont think it will be more than 6-7 out of 10.
