What ship should i get next?

Hi all! :)

I was wondering what ship I should get next at the moment I have wellish equipped cobra and okay equipped viper...
I am not at all a trader or an explorer but I do find it nice to be able to switch the ship into any role at any time...
If anyone could offer some advice I would be very grateful... Thank you very much! (I like the cobra because of its versatility jack of all trades ace of none type thing is there anything like that?):D

First off, are you sure you want a ship? You seem more like a car person. But if you insist on a ship, I would suggest an Asp. Retails at around 6.6 million, plus you'd want another 4-6 million for initial upgrades after purchase, so make sure you have at least 10 million banked unless you intend to trade in an older ship (I wouldn't - it's nice to have a backup, especially a Cobra ;)). You can make the Asp do pretty much anything - fight, trade, explore, you name it, the Asp will do it.

[Edit] If you have the Alioth permit, I believe the Asp is discounted at Irkutsk station. You can also get system upgrades cheaper in systems aligned with Li-Yong Rui. Between those two, you can save a million or two.

Asp is the next multirole ship up from the Cobra.

Quite an investment but does everything well.
This should help in future, if you hover over "Elite Dangerous" on the top bar and then over ships you can select types (multi-role, combat etc) and have a look at them all :)

Keep the Cobra, it's a good ship. I know someone who's been flying a Cobra for close to 14 months and he'll not use anything else.

Makes me want to get mine out and polish the old wireframe skin ;)

Hi all thanks for the replies... Yes sadly I want a spaceship ;) not a car.... My next question would be do you recommend the Asp if I have only flown with fixed weapons I do not really want to rely on gimbaled or turreted weapons.

Thanks I will be in it for a while anyway I have to grind the money.

Depends on your budget. If you want another multi-purpose, the Asp is pretty good at combat, exploring and trading... might be a little pricey though and it's kinda sluggish. Nothing beats the sound of six multicannons all firing at once though.

Combat-wise, Diamondback Scout is fun. Comparable to Viper/Cobra but with closer hardpoints and better jump range. Can fit about 20t cargo with just a shield generator though. It's proven to be a very capable stealth fighter, on the other hand.

Fixed weapons are definitely doable on the Asp. Four of the six hardpoints are fairly close to the centerline, so they're actually better placed for it than on the Cobra, and its turn rate is similar to the Cobra (though its extra mass does mean it changes velocity vector slower, but your weapons won't care too much about that). The two outer hardpoints would still likely need gimbals to hit smaller ships, though.

As others have said, Asp is a great all rounder, but if you're after something for combat, you should take a look at the Vulture.

Shop for new ships in Yi Tung Rui (Sp) systems. Modules and ships are 15% off. I got an Asp for under 6 in 39 Tauri. My favourite all-around ship right now is Diamondback Explorer.

Yeah go Vulture, should be around 12 Mil to have a decent outfit and is great in combat.
If you need a multirole Asp is the way to go but i would go for vulture 1st then earn credits for Asp in that.

Fly what ever you feel is the best for you.
90% of the time ships are side grades.
for instance the vulture and eagle even if the vulture is better in most ways the eagle with a good pilot inside could kill a vulture with ease.
