What ship to get next

so i asked before what ship to get either eagle cobra or viper people suggested viper since its cheap and good and i have found out that is true i now bounty hunt all the time only time im docked is to cash in and its getting me abit of credits with viper nearly all A class, but im now stuck with the decision of what ship to get of course i see the anaconda as the end of the goal ship to get but what is the next good ship ship for combat and there price?

im looking at python or fer de lance but sadly iv not got any in station/system to see pricing range and was hoping people who fly them could say how brillant they are so i can get more excited than i am about the game ^^

also how do you get permits for place like SOL?

To get an permit you need to do missions for the faction which requires permit. Eventually you'll get one.

You might consider either vulture or some faction ship like clipper. Python and FDL are somewhat expensive, especially if you want to make them a-graded.

mid-level ships

for trading - T-6
for exploring - Asp
for combat - Vulture

for Sol permit - you need to do Federation missions.

If you're concentrating on combat, I'd suggest saving for a Vulture, consensus of opinion puts the price for a fully kitted-out Vulture at around 30 million credits. It's a good ship, manoeverable, tanky (with the right setup), and those two large hardpoints can fit some hard-hitting weapons. It's a bit slow, so everyone can outrun you (cowards!).

Permits for most systems are earned by ranking up with the Feds or Empire, or by becoming allied with the controlling faction for that system. Hope this helps! :)

Edit: Double ninja'd!!

Have a look at http://www.edshipyard.com for the prices as well as configuration options.

Hello there

Ive recently upgraded to a Vulture and the hunt for parts and low jump, for me, make it no fun at all. YMMV.

I'll stick to my trusty Viper warts and all.

Id personally like to see less upward grind in ships and more a sideways transition. Ie have a Viper equivalent but with a different No. of HP and different yet similar specs so one can still be on their preferred level but have enough variety to enjoy.

Im probably going to keep my Viper and buy another ship that fulfills a different role. Ie Lakon T7 (eventually) or an Asp.

I can't even parse this. :S

However, it appears to be expressing unhappiness about the Vulture. Yes, it costs about 3M to max a Viper, and about 25M for a Vulture, but the latter is night and day, especially against large targets, due to the mechanics of weapon and hull size modifiers.

Edit: OK, managed to parse it. It took a few re-readings.. The answer stands. As to the jump range (I think this is what you mean), yes- it's a fighter, what did you expect? You can still get to where you need if you fit a fuel scoop and pay attention to the galaxy map. The downside is that it's not an Asp- but the even bigger upside is that it isn't an Asp.

Hello there

Sorry if you found it hard to read. Makes perfect sense to me though. :)

As to the vulture being a fighter and my expectations, well, it is what it is and I expected that.

What I did not expect was the vast hunt for decent weapons with which to equip it.

The low jump of the Vulture make the 50 odd jumps one may need to do less than fun (and here comes the important part) for me.

Note that "for me" bit. I didnt claim it was a huge flaw of ED's or yours or your pet cats. Rather that ,for me, it was no fun.

I hope you understand :)

No worries, we all have days like that :)

Ah, that was a non-issue for me, as I shop in Jameson Memorial, where (almost) everything is in stock. I keep overlooking that factor, I'm sure it's a major hassle for other people, though. Makes sense. That said, it's no worse than the Viper, which is what people are often upgrading from. If anything, I think it's a slight improvement.

However, my pet cats are war criminals, and have stupid moustaches. You may say what you like about them.

Well, I have a Cobra MK III at the moment (named Moonlight Shadow) which I trade in, but eventually plan to upgrade to something bigger but keeping the Cobra as frankly it IS THE Elite ship and old time commanders from the good-old-days of the first galactic expansion will know what I'm talking about. This said, I often star-cruise in a Viper MK III and take out pirate scum for fun. I also have an Eagle sitting in a hanger someplace, but I'll worry about that if I ever see it ever again. This said you have to decide what your goals are. Mine are to become obscenely rich, to arm the biggest ship I can and then to sit in an Anarchy system surrounded by pirates and just laugh insanely - but that's just me. Anyway, for making money you cannot beat the Cobra MK III as a stepping stone. Mine is currently rated at forty-four metric tonnes of cargo and has a weapons and defensive array that gives me an edge. Most of the time I can outrun the bad guys but if they want a fight ... well, they get one.

And the Viper MK III. PURE killing machine. Remove the cargo space, mount some decent weaponry and put in a shield booster. That ship can do wonders and it pays well too. I have already made back the cost of the vessel in bounty payments - plus, if you have a little "misunderstanding" while weapon locking you can vamoose out of the area and get to a port before anyone decides to use your caboose for target practice. As long as you manage to avoid a scan on the way in, you land, pay the fine and then collect your blood money. I know, I do. I have one other vessel, a Sidewinder which I often use to show new commanders how to fly (via Skype screen sharing).

Hello there

I *may* well be doing something wrong, my Vulture;s jump is around 7 LY. I shall look into this!

I would just say that the ASP is a way better trader than the t6, and whilst it doesn't combat quite as well as the vulture it is still an excellent PVE fighter... basically I wouldn't discount it on the basis that it is just an explorer, it is extremely versatile.

Ouch :D

I think mine is something like this:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=60N,5Dd5Dd3we0-8,316Q7_6Q5K7_6u5A,7Sk05U4xo10i10i

(from memory, might be slightly wrong)

..and gives me a good 15LY, even with a full tank. I guess the problem for you is finding the drive that you need.. Try setting the galaxy map to show high tech/high population stars and cross your fingers?

Happy to do so, Commander Shiro Ryuu - she is a lean ship, nothing special but she gets results. I call her the Serpent's Eye and the specs are below:
