What ships can do 40+ ly jumps?

Is it only the Diamondback Explorer? I fooled around with a ship building site and it seemed like the only one.

This is without engineering as I don't own Horizons yet. Though, I am interested in that aspect too as I feel the need more and more to purchase Horizons.

You should include engineered FSD ships, at least to level 5 50% increase*, because that is now the de-facto standard. That would seem to be the priority for upgrade of ships to make them more useful in reaching destinations more quickly.

* With 3.0, the meta build will be +61%

I don't think I'd even bother playing Elite Dangerous if I did not have Horizons. You missing out on planet landings, engineering, ships, Guardian & Thargoid structures and lots of other little things.

40ly is stripped bare though, at least unengineered. You want to actually do anything, be happy if you get 35ly out of a ship.

All you're missing with engineers is more grind. I wouldn't exactly call the feature "fun".

He's right. Even if you don't want to do all these things, the ability to engineer your FSD for improved jump range makes such a significant difference to the game if you ever travel anywhere, including within the Bubble, that it makes Elite Dangerous feel very artificial vanilla.

At least if you get Horizons now, you are getting a whole load of updates for a year absolutely free !

I find it quite fun, myself.

The only part of engineers I have felt to be somewhat of a grind is the damned combat rank for Lori Jameson. Other than that, I have enjoyed the various other activities to unlock and upgrade my modules. That said, I only have a handful of ships, so I have not done the whole 50 G5 shield boosters for 12 ships, and 40 G5 plasmas with specific affects and all that other minmaxing meta stuff.

It's a pretty useless build to get it over 40ly - https://eddp.co/u/43gU8EjF

Horizons and engineering is your goal really, with engineering the same example above will see 60

Get Horizons, currently you have a shell of a game with no depth. Horizons increases the depth by a few %(yes,it was a dig at FD :D )

I am probably weird but I love planetary landing(and flying across the surface) and love driving the SRV :)
I consider Engineers a necessity, so it is neither a chore, nor is it fun.

In fully stripped builds, with full engineering, here's the max a ship can currently do:

Anaconda - 72Ly
DBX - 64Ly
Asp X - 60Ly
Hauler - 55Ly
Orca - 50Ly
Dolphin - 48Ly
Type-6 - 49Ly
iCourier - 44Ly
Adder - 42Ly
Cobra MkIII - 42Ly
iClipper - 40Ly
Python - 39Ly
Sidewinder - 36Ly

So roughly subtract 5Ly jump range from each ship for outfitting, and that's the list of ships with jump ranges above 40Ly :D

Of course, that's if you have Horizons, which I'd definitely advise getting if you can. Keep an eye out for Steam sales and Humble Bundles as well, I've seen the Elite Deluxe Edition going for around €20 in sales

I didn't understand thr majority of the replies (new player), but this post is solidified enough. I thank you all, though.

I'm on PS4, but Horizons is only $30 more. Really does sound like it makes a big difference.

When you are trundling round in yer buggy, falling off cliffs and boosting into the stratosphere and generally having a good time, you will be glad you got Horizons mate. Enjoy!

You do make it sound appealing. I really a Beluga at some point anyway, passanger missions are my favorite.

Any of those ships can do 40+ engineered.

Sorry Hal to correct you.
I have an Orca that does 53.47 Ly
I have a Dolphin that does 51 Ly
I have a Python that does 43.69 Ly

All of course in 2.4
The values of the DBX and the ASP seem to be 3.0
The Anaconda is also quite extreme ...

Just nitpicking. Just for the fun of it :D :D :D

Thanks for the correction, I pulled them from one of the post-your-jump-range threads so some might not be completely up to date!

Well, technically speaking, if you include things like jumponium and star boosts, I think all of them can.

engineer a low class power module. engineer the frame shift.... My Python has an engineered 3A power plant and an engineered 5A frame shift. And im close to 35ly. (thats carrying a planetary hanger, repair limpit controller, advanced disc scanner, detailed surface scanner, 2 x 5d afm(just in case of heavy damage one afm can repair the other), 3D shield gen, 6B fuel scoop, and a cargo rack for making repair limpets. ( and its not fully engineered. it could go further. The Python had enough internal slots for what i wanted)
