what should I be looking at after my Python is A1 and engineered

I have not played since they released the engineer's update but started playing again a few weeks back. So not being up to speed on all the new ships I was just wondering what I should be looking at. I have been runnung passenger missions and collecting mats for upgrades mostly.

Python is still king for medium pad (outpost) mission running. Great all-rounder, even better with Grade 5 FSD and Dirty Drive upgrades.

Beyond that for most Cargo gain Empire faction and save up for a Cutter. For Exploration Engineer an AspX or DBX for cheapness. For combat, I think the FdL is still pretty handy for PvE Res site Bounty Hunting. Others like the Federal Gunship, Anaconda, Federal Corvette... I'm not really a combat person.

I'm not a 'own twenty ships configured for twenty different things' kinda guy, so the Python is my goto ship for pretty much anything in the bubble. I do have a AspE for exploration, a Orca for passenger missions, and a Corvette for res site/CNB bounty hunting, but that's all I own. However, my Python will do bounty hunting just fine. Last night I was running a few missions/cargo runs and was going to head home when I decided to check out the local res sites. Dropped into a high res and then a haz res and ended up adding almost 3M credits to the bank account while having a blast (pun intended ;) ) for about an hour.

My Python can fight, haul 144T of cargo, and even carries a SRV for when I find a system with good availability of rare materials. And I don't have to reconfigure it all the time. :)

I have a similar config in my Corvette, but it is limited to large ports only so I see fewer missions for it. :(

What do you mean, "Looking at" ?

Price-wise, about 190 million. At least that's what mine was before I sold it. A-spec'd. Did everything well. Grade 5 FSD upgrades corrected the jump range problem. G5 thrusters helped handling a LOT. Weapon/shield upgrades were very nice. Almost as good as it was pre-Horizons. ALMOST. And it will never be as good as the original pre-pre-nerf python.

Mission wise ? Python will do anything well if it's outfitted.

For PvE some would say it's the best all around ship there is, and it's hard to disagree. Bigger then a Type-7, and can land on medium pads. Won't make as much as the bigger ships in bulk trading, but some missions are only do-able in a python ( the infamous 190 tons to an outpost mission ). Hard to find a mission a Python can't do. It will also do any profession well, with the exception of explorer.. jump range versus the AspX, DBX, and Anaconda hinder it in that role.

For PvP.. not so much. FDL rules there, or one of the big 3. It can't match the FDL's speed/handling and it will dance around you evading your weapons. It also doesn't have the firepower to match an engineered big ship, trading sustained fire against one of the big 3 engineered for PvP will introduce you to the re-buy screen in a hurry. This is the one place being a good all 'rounder doesn't pay.

On the contrary, I'm struggling to see the point of the Python, although I even have a paint pack for it, I never found a role it could fit in. Sure, I tend to run operations from a base station, so all ships are at hand, which makes a difference, but I am perfectly able to hop around and take most missions with a Cobra MkIV too.

190 tons to an outpost are as rare as white ravens. For any other similar trading role (CGs, etc.), I took the T7 which is much cheaper and does the job.
And the FDL or the Gunship packs bigger punch when it comes to intense combat situations (CZs, or haz res sites).
