What should I do

I just started to bounty hunt with my cobra mk3, after almost 1 hour of hunting I've got 2 million coins.

Whats better?

Option 1: Buy a better ship but start all over with no credits and modifications, then try to bounty hunt with the defaults of the ship.

Option 2: Upgrade my cobra mk3 using 2 million and keep bounty hunting.

I can't think of a ship to buy rn so please send suggestions.

If you like bounty hunting, keep on doing it. With 2 MCr., youo could switch to a Diamondback Scout, but the difference is small - the DBS will have slightly better agility and view in exchage for significanlty less cargo space. Or try a Viper - same weapon slots as the Cobra or DBS, overall smaller. But that one's only really fun once you've unlocked one of the thruster engineers and can equip it with Enhaced Performance thrusters.

If you like shooting, try to collect 10, better 20 MCr. and get a Vulture. Base ship is only 5 MCr., but A-rated it's easily north of 15 MCr.

Yeah head for a vulture. But whatever the overall price is, double it...as mentioned its alot to A rate and engineer. So have more credits than you need. In case you lose a ship a few times.

Option 2 and get to grips with how that ship works, test it and yourself and stick it out.

Two million is nothing comparatively in ED, you will need more than that to buy a decent ship and load it out, but when that time arrives don’t sell your older ship, you might find you actually miss it and want to go back to it later, the Cobra although not the most powerful is a great all-rounder, and when engineered is even better. Holding onto ships is also a great way to store capital in game, not that credits are difficult to come by.

Personally I’ve tried every ship and been here since the kickstarter, and I’m still flying my old Cobra. Find a ship your happy with, it’s not all about grinding and buying every ship, pick one and fall in love with it.

Stick with a faction and work your way up and get allied, the rewards will go up significantly, when you hit that cap, don’t be tempted to move on, stick with it and go above and beyond… let us know if anything interesting happens…

I too am new to bounty hunting and have posted a question that had some great help. So following this thread, I know there are a lot of different opinions, but what are the thoughts on having stored modules for your ship and changing them out for different missions..I know there isnt an easy way to do this, and it would be great if you could swap out module packages, but any help on the best way to say swap a cobra out from bounty hunting to exploration...Or is it even worth the effort

It works (sort of) if you have a fixed main base - which also might be a fleet carrier. The other option is to have dedicated ships for each task - but without a fixed base (or a carrier), that is only marginally less effort. Yes, you can have your ships (or modules) shipped to the station you are currently. It just costs time and money. I still got a fully equipped T-10 and a few other ships stored in Colonia because I don't want to pay for shipping them over - and neither do I want to lose the engineered modules on them by remote selling the ships.

Admittedly, that doesn't help you much. Ok, for the Cobra Mk.III, I'd probably go for dedicated ships - too much to change between roles, and the bare hull is cheap; it's the modules that'll ruin you.
On the other hand, with something like a Python (I prefer the Krait Mk.II for being able to see where I'm going 😛 ), you can set up a basic general purpose loadout and just swap in one or two of the optionals, depending on the task at hand.

I'm swapping between passenger cabins, cargo racks, collectors and vehicle hangars on my Krait Phantom at the moment (with Guardian FSD booster sometimes) depending on mission types: whether I'm building up reputation, making some decent cash, or taking on-foot missions. All from one station base. With other tasks like mining or exploring I have dedicated lightweight or extensively-engineered ships that specialise. But there's a lot to be said for having a "Swiss Army Knife" ship with the modules being the selectable "blades".

Eventually you'll have about 6 to 10 or more fully engineered ships. You'll make alot of mistakes. You'll over write on modules like experimentals etc on a weekly basis. Until you find yourself in a place where u got almost 200 modules on a carrier spread over a dozen ships. Interaction interchangeable etc defo possible.
Pythons n kraits swap like for like.
Have more than one cobra.
Have 3 corvettes each specced differently.
Then you know your hooked hehe.

It jut takes to much time to switch out modules. Like you were saying. I only have 3 ships but have modules spread over 8 or 9 stations. i Can’t imagine 10 ships. One other question. Is there a way to make bigger money exploring other than road to riches

All-rounder ships are OK when you're starting out and only have a few. Over time, you learn that it's better to specialise ships for particular roles. I'm up to around 17 now, with ships geared towards cargo hauling, combat, exploration, mining (separate laser and core mining ships), etc.

I've made a few billion from exploration. It's not really a fast way to make money, but it can be very fulfilling! Some tips are to get a couple of thousand light years out of the bubble, above or below the plane to find undiscovered stuff. Do detailed scans of earth-like, water, ammonia worlds and terraforming candidates. And filter out M-class stars, the bodies are usually just rock and ice.

The mass code in the system name can be a good indication that there might be something interesting there. D2EA has a good video on it.

More? Sure. A trip to Beagle Point or a circumnavigation outside the beaten paths should net you a couple of Billion at least. Those "first dicovered"/"first mapped" bonuses will stack up. That's one (of the two1) disadvantage of R2R: you will never be the first to discover/map a system, since R2R has to rely on published data. And not even in-game data, for that, but data other CMDRs contributed to EDDN.

Faster? Probably not. If you want to stop and scan what you found, you'll take weeks or months (at least) for such a trip.

1) The other is that, as with all exploration, you can only reap the money for a given object once in your CMDR's career. Not a big issue for independent exploring, but possibly a problem with R2R.

No. It is not worth the effort at all.

The Mk III is really good at fighting, and pretty decent at mining. The first exploration ship you should get is the Asp Explorer. It's fantastic.

Not for you. Not for a while.

The simple fact of the matter is that you're not going to be able to do any real exploring worth anything until you get engineering for your FSD's and a ship capable of actually doing it.

I agree. My colleague and wingman felt a DBX was just as good when we travelled down to the end of the Outer Arm a few years ago. Personally, despite the range, I felt the DBX was a bit too cramped.

Now it's all about the Krait Phantom... nice and cold for scooping.

Thanks..As usual a lot of good help. Im off to see the wizzard. I dont think we will in Kansas for a while Toto
Just keep at it. Won't be long before you're in one of these:
