I reckon the general consensus on that the AspX and DBX are both quite similar on paper but rather different in practice, like miniature versions of the Krait ships and the Python...I agree. My colleague and wingman felt a DBX was just as good when we travelled down to the end of the Outer Arm a few years ago. Personally, despite the range, I felt the DBX was a bit too cramped.
Now it's all about the Krait Phantom... nice and cold for scooping.
The DBX is smaller and cheaper, while the AspX is dearer, bigger and has more module slots, but overall both are very capable multipurpose ships, which excell in terms of jump range.
My personal favourite between the two is the Asp, but I recommend trying and owning both...
I started playing the game around the PS4 launch and the following is my personal path through the game, I stayed in the Sidewinder until A rated it and could afford to buy and decently outfit a Cobra III, which I used for a long time, complimenting the Cobra with a Viper IV, Adder and later Dolphin, while saving money and learning to play the game.
Looking at the next available ships, I wanted a AspX, though couldn't afford it, I went sideways into a Type 6 to do better in trade CGs while saving for the Asp, and once I had enough to buy and decently outfit the Asp, I bought it and A rated it...
(While i did buy a DBX, I never really used it, though still own it.
I also tried a Vulture and was very disappointed in it and it became one of the few ships I sold.)
At that point when I was playing the game, there weren't a lot of affordable multipurpose ships, short of the faction locked ones, after the Asp - the three alliance Chieftain varients and the two Krait varients hadn't been added to the game, so you basically had to save up for a Python, which is what I did.
Back then, it was harder to make money so I stayed a long time in the Asp, until I bought and outfitted a Python and it remains one of my favourite ships
I'd nearly A rated my Python and was just about to start saving for an Anaconda when the Krait mark II came out, so I moved sideways to that while saving for an Anaconda...
I spent over a year then mostly in the Python saving for an Anaconda which is now my main ship which I've spent over two years in and counting..
I've done a little bit in a Federal Corvette recently, but that's been mostly my ship use in this game
While I've taken part in many types of gameplay in the game, I only just got round to outfitting my Anaconda for long range travel and travelling more than 1000 light years from my starting system for the first time (then 2500, then a bit more)...
I'm currently about 8,000 light years from the bubble at the astroid base in the Soul nebula, thinking whether to head back or not or go deeper "into the Black" .
Anyway, happy trails!
