What smuggling missions count for trade rank?

Hello CMDRs,

I have a question here. Yesterday I did some smuggling missions in Fehu. Those were smuggling missions, which fail if you get scanned. After I turned them in, my trade rank percentage increased. Then I went to Sothis and did some smuggling missions there. Those were missions, which fail, if your ship is destroyed. After turning those missions in, my trade rank percentage didn't increase, although, the amount of money I got from those missions was a lot higher.

So my question is, did you guys experience the same? If so, can anybody explain, why there is a difference?

Cheers CMDRs!

You kind of already answered your own question. Trade rank goes up based on the amount of cash you make from your exploits. A shadow mission may be worth 5 mil and a normal smuggle only 1 mil. Therefore your rep would increase much faster with the shadow mission. Depending on your current trade rank, the amount of money required to go up 1% is more than the rank before, therefore 5 mil at Entreprenuer level may only make 1% difference, therefore you would need 5x 1 mil value smuggle missions to achieve the same rate of increase.

Thanks for your fast answer, but I think you misunderstood me here. When i went to Fehu I did missions worth 7mil and my trade rank increased 1%. Then i went to Sothis and I did missions worth 15mil and my trade rank stays the same. Again, the missions in Fehu fail when scanned, the missions in Sothis fail when being destroyed. So I made much more credits in Sothis and it didn't increase my rank. That's the thing i don't understand.

How much cargo for each mission? What was the profit/ton for each mission?

Trade rank is based on total profit, so there should be no difference.
Sometimes the percentage is updated with a delay, you can force update by relogging.

Well even a day later after several relogs there is no increase in my trade rank. I think I will try that again at Sothis and see if trade rank changes. I appreciate your help guys.

Trade rank is based on total profit, so there should be no difference.

Except profit (per ton) is extremely different between shadow deliveries and normal smuggling missions.

Take for example a shadow delivery to transport 4 slaves for some 4 million cr. That's approximately 1 million per ton profit (the slave's commodity value is negligible in this case).

A smuggling mission with a lower payout of approx. 2 million for 200t of cargo would net 10000cr per ton minus whatever market value the cargo has. Far less than shadow deliveries.

We don't know if the rank calculation takes into consideration the market value of the smuggled goods, but even if it doesn't I think it's safe to assume that it takes into consideration the tonnage. We also don't know how much the OP was carrying in both cases and why he was making less money overall from shadow deliveries over regular smuggling missions. Bottom line: carry less for more money = more trade rank.

I was not getting trade rank for some smuggling missions so I put in a ticket. The response from Frontier was that smuggling missions aren't supposed to give trade rank. The fact that some are IS the bug. In my experience the "fail on scan" missions are contributing to my trade rank but the illegal haulage smuggling missions do not.
