Cobra is the natural choice.
and a fuel scoop if your worried about the size of your gas tank, A2 for preference but with 3 mil in the bank i'd go right to the type 6 as they are just under 1 mil each.
No no you're doing it all wrong... L6, and within a few days you'll have a Cobra as well as an L6. More is always better!!

Do you play Open or Solo?
I feel very safe in a sheildless 60 ton hold Cobra, but I feel like I'm taking a big risk even in the fastest and most durable Type-6 I can make, which costs a hell of a lot more than 3 million credits and isn't dramatically better at hauling cargo due to having a high-end shield and SCB eating up space.

juicy trade runs are only juicy when they are kept quiet so if someone is sat on a profitable route they'll want to keep it to themselves.
With a type 6, your best bet is to chain together a dozen or so rare commodity sources, and use the extra cargo space to trade minor goods along the way. Done right, you could earn up to 1 million credits an hour. It'll be the best money you can make until you can get a type 7.

Without cargo insurance, and with how expensive ship insurance can get when you get the big freighters, trading solo is really the only way to go.
