What story?

I've been busy trading since release but today I decided I would like to take part in the story, bought a Viper and went to Sorbago.
I found two capital ships there but nothing going on. No battle and I could not choose sides...
Am I to late or is there anything I need to do first to participate in teh storyline?
I have no clue.
Any help is welcome :)

Thanks in advance!

If you read the Galnet news ingame, it said the rebellion was crushed — So yes, you are too late for that particular area. :)

*Edit* it can also be read on the website, so more specifically:

Galnet 25 dec 3300 ( http://www.elitedangerous.com/news/galnet/ )
Slave Rebellion Crushed

In a statement from one of Senator Torval’s closest advisors the Senator declared that the rebellion in the Sorbago system had been crushed. She praised her forces and the allied pilots who aided in suppressing the rebellion.

“The institution of Imperial slavery in the Sorbago system has been restored. Those that have broken tradition will be punished according to Imperial law. Our focus now is on restoring production and additional manpower from Mastopolos Mining will be transferred into the system to assist in the rebuilding process.”

She also promised that the situation in the system would return to normal quickly, although local market prices haven’t yet returned to their pre-rebellion levels.

If you check the forums, there are 2-3 revolts/revolutions, players started, ongoing, check them out and go give a hand!

I really could not care less about an in game story however even I can figure out that the universe story is hidden in the news.

This is the bit where your imagination can kick into gear :)

Maybe they are there because, often after a war, troops stay for a while just to make sure it does not spark off again.

Maybe they ran out of gas.

Maybe they are on shore leave.

Maybe everyone on board is dead.... overdosed from the local drug.

...or maybe.... juuuuuust maybe..... everyone is just too busy because IIIIIIIITS......
