Engineers What the? Another wheel of fortune?

There I was initially upgrading FSDs and chuntering away to myself at my continual bad luck on the initial RNG sliders of woe but then when I eventually got round to doing my first weapons up pops another wheel of fortune for the secondary effects!

Nobody told me about that!

I mean looking at the colours on the wheel it's not even anywhere near a 50:50 chance. It really is never ending.

It took me about 20 rolls of that "wheel" just to land on a special....that was in beta...with fish.

Theres no excuse for the grind this game presents around every corner.

I know right?
I was doing a PD upgrade and thought "It's not that bad".
Then i did a beam laser upgrade.

What....the....hell.

It's like a 1 in 50 chance or something.
I don't even want a special, i just wanted to know what they was. But no, you don't even get to see.

Well, it's really worse than you say....

1 pull the handle on the slot machine and watch the Stat sliders

2 spin the wheel of fortune and see what changes in your showcase reveal, which can and will also change your original Stat slider results btw.

3 spin the roulette wheel to see if you get a special effect! Mind you this is not a simple red-black, or even-odd bet here. We're almost reaching that 00 level bet! (Well it sure seems that way sometimes right)

4 now this is the best one because you don't even see it! So we actually hit big on the roulette wheel in 3 and now have an effect! But wait! Which one do we get? Ah now for the Russian Roulette, you know, the kind with a loaded revolver. So we load it it not with just one round, but we fill the cylinder with bullets except one. We give it a whirl, place it to our head and squeeze the triger. If we get the one possible "click", awesome! We survived and got the one effect we wanted! If we get a "bang", well, then if we're after that one effect, we may just be up for playing a real round afterwards!

Guys, please, stop whining already.

I've done many upgrades so far (weapons and modules) and it has always been an improvement! Is totally indifferent if the positive effect roll lands on the max 50% or just at 48,8% .... come on! Everyone win-maxing? ?

And concerning the weapon special effects: they are a very rare additional BONUS. Around 10%chance to get ONE of the possible effects (in an update you can choose which one)
This is clearly stated in the engineer screen as well. You don't have to get it. I was very happy to get a rank 5 overcharged multi with nice stats at all. To hell with that bonus effect, might be another time at another ship. ...:p

I'm not. I'm just pointing out that it's worse than he said. I know from the beta how powerful the right combination of upgrades and effects can be. I'm not saying it should be super easy to get your desired outcome. I sure wouldn't like running into some of that in the live build, as much as I'd like to have them myself. I'd like a less of an RNG aspect to it, which they are addressing, but honestly, that may not be the best thing to do. There was some really amazing things that were able to be accomplished but that is a two way street as well.

I don't think I want to see.
It would be too much like having Bullseye's Jim Bowen on the dev staff, "Look what you could have won!"
(The UK based CMDRs will understand that one)

I'll just leave this in here; (clearly landed on the blue and still got naff all special effects)

Nobody told you?!?! The experimental Upgrades are the most exciting ones... dont you read up on updates?!?!
I so far hit the blue exactly 8 times :D using a whiiping 124 rolls :D I have no cpmplaints!

Reading is more grind. Lol

And those odds are why i quickly gave up on engineering stuff!

Why do I have to grind through all these words to get to the parts I want to read! :p

Clearly the special effect is nothing, because YOU are the special effect! ;)

WHAT!? Really? Oh give me a break! That's another thing I wasn't aware of.

Look there's whining and there's pointing out the illogical. I'm trying to do the latter.

I totally agree that these top end upgrades with all the bell and whistles special effects should be difficult to get but when you combine all the probabilities of the multi RNG strings into the equation PLUS the RNG grind of actually finding all this stuff around the universe to be able to even qualify to pull the handle in the first place, some of which is as rare as the proverbial rocking horse dung (polite word used there)......well I'm no statistician but I would imagine the actual probability of winning that particular lottery is thousands to 1.

Come on let's have a carrot dangling but not one you need a pair of binoculars to actually see due to the stick being so damn long.
