What the hell is going on with Extraction zones?!?!

heh. Par for the course.

1/2 dozen time I've been in HIRES I've seen 4 security guys show up 2 or 3 times. Rest of the time it 's just me, the miners, and the targets.

I wonder if it depends if you are allied or not. I'm allied with the federation and after a little while of hunting I'm hires I have 5 to 10 federation security ships in there that will just come shoot at targets that I'm shooting or that are shooting at me. Sometimes I'll take on a wing of 3 and 1 of them will already be dead once I've killed the first 2.

Frankly, if you can make an educated guess as to whether your target is wanted before the scan is finished, you shouldn't be penalized for being right. But then again I'm neutral, not lawful.

Guesses are not good enough. You have no authority to attack until you are given so.

You gun down someone, you're a criminal, whether that person turns out to be a mass murderer or not. You have no authority to make that decision and take that course of action until given the permission to do so.

Possible. Might depend on the system security level, too. I mostly hang out in small Independent systems, so the security level may not have been the highest when I was doing my HIRES work.

OP. Sounds like great fun, finally some action in the hi-res. Good to know, thanks.
Up until now it's been a little bit dull because everyone is too friendly. Been working hard to get hostile enough, but not been able to get hostile enough just quite yet.
FD, big thumbs up - going to check to see if we finally have some hostilities at last.

Nope, definitely confirmed him as wanted.

I don't mind hostility, but when I am getting pounded by literally 6 ships at once, then it becomes difficult......thanks for the tip about returning to the same extraction sites, though, that may well be it.....as I have been going back to the same one over & over!

Not a "stupid mechanic" at all.

It is a bug and only happens if the wanted was previously a clean when the instance spawned.
Its rare but does happen.

you begin to learn the factions and the ones that can cause the bug.
99% of the time it's a miner that's been caught up in cross fire.
Flagged as wanted but still recognised as clean by federal authority.... Even though they are shooting at it !!!!

Eddy, trust me I don't mind getting my butt whipped.....otherwise I wouldn't keep getting involved in Conflict Zones.....but it did seem odd at the time that they weren't targeting nearby ships filled with ore ;-).

If you have something in storage ( even only drones ) pirates will scan and attack you for cargo. In high RES you can find yourself surrounded with 8 NPCs fireing at you in no time and all want your cargo.

Ah, that might be it.....I had Liberal Propaganda in my hold. How weird that they'd value that ;-).

Seriously, everyone, thank you so much for the tips......what I thought was a glitch was actually the way it was intended to work. I'll have to be sure not to over-exploit the same resource extraction sites in future ;-).

To be honest I almost always carry a crate of something in my hold even when BHing. Just so that pirates will take potshots at me / interdict me etc. That way the wanted npc's come to me and I don't have to spend all night hunting them down.

Interesting why do you not find it stupid ? the criminal doesn't magically get a bounty when I scan him surely he must of had it all along hence the security shooting him - I should not be punished for shooting at him without a scan if he's wanted with a bounty it makes no sense.

Don't be afraid to criticise the game there's lots of room for improvement.

I get that, but the situations where the police gun down a man who shot at a clearly dangerous criminal are absolutely stupid. If I see a ship shooting a harmless trader, and the police are shooting him, I think I can put two and two together. Not to mention I've been in situations where a wing of pirates is attacking me, but either some of the ships don't register as wanted or they just haven't fired upon me yet. Every second counts in that situation, but you're telling me I'm the jerk because I would rather live than wait for a computer to tell me what I already know? No, that's stupid.

The police should take care of real threats before firing on a guy who thought it best to shoot the clearly dangerous criminal. If FD can't manage that, shooting a criminal shouldn't warrant a bounty at all....if you don't let the scan complete, it should be a fine at the most.
