What to do at Rackham's Peak...

Is there anything to do at HIP 58832?
There are only 2 landable planets and I'm stuck here for another 5 days so I was wondering if there's anything I'm missing when it comes to finding something to do there.😬

Enjoy the view? 😄

I was surprised to see there are not even any Odyssey settlements up there? Can you get ground missions at all from the station?

Get fined, have your ship destroyed, and you will respawn in a detention megaship in the bubble!
The only reason I don't do that is because I may be sent to a detention center but my ship may not.
Last time I was 3,000 LY away from my ship. No Apex could get to any of em. It was a bit of a nightmare.

If you get destroyed with your ship, you should respawn in your ship in the megaship, or have the game mechanics changed? 🤔 Genuinely curious now!

When I did it (by mistake!!!) I found myself in my ship 5000ly away from my friends, but at least I could carry on with my business in the bubble!

Fleet Carrier bingo, land on each and every one as there appears to be a surfeit of them in system.
Why stuck there by the way?

Someone's fleet carrier went out that way and they're staying there for 7 days. So I'm just gonna wait until they fly back. I have my alt account to play around on until then.

It's a research stations only so they aren't making a copy of the bubble. Most other isolated station don't have surface stations and ports, Medusa's Rock for example. Rackhams Peak is essentially a tourist destination, like Wolf Creek Meteor Crater, interesting for it's location and significance but not designed for doing serious stuff.

  • 2 landable planets, so good ol' SRV wave scanner for raw materials, if you don't have them all capped.
  • If you own Odyssey, then you can check the random POIs generated on the planets, maybe score a few odyssey mats this way.
  • No atmospheres, so no life to scan for exobiology.
  • No asteroid belts, so no mining.
  • Without nearby inhabited systems (there aren't even nearby stars since this is reachable through FCs only), I don't think the mission board will generate anything. I wish the standard was to get missions to do stuff in the system you're in...
  • This is still a populated system, so you might get something other than salvaging by checking the signal sources?
  • Sitting in the nav beacon/supercruise looking for pirates... this is a very bare bone gameplay loop though.

Sightseeing, mostly. Check out the geological signals, there are some great views in the system. Here are a couple I took with CMDR Taimaru when it first opened up.
