I think it's understandable people want more. Space is, after all, a very boring place

The FD team knows this, but not because beta testers and future customers demand more. They know it themselves and have said on numerous videos that they want to drive the ultimate space experience. But those added features take time, a lot of time. Especially when you have a creative team that cares about attention to detail. It's also why I hope they shelve planetary landings until the very very end, despite they keep bringing it up in their videos. In fact, I would implore they outright cancel that feature now. That is no walk in the park to do right and anything less than right is an injustice to the immersion. Oceans, alien forests, volcanoes, clouds, storms, winter, and life forms doesn't even scratch the surface of that beast of a feature. I would very much appreciate they spend the bulk of their time augmenting the space experience and leave planetary landings to ones imagination. Highly detailed procedurally generated planets with day/night cycles should be the focus of their attention.
Having said that, we as gamers just need to be patient for the full experience to unravel. Pretty much what FD has in place now is the groundwork of the space experience. There's certainly room for more polishing and added content such as new ships, new stations, new procedurally generated worlds, new gameplay features, etc. And those will be addressed as the game progresses (well, pending funding of course), but everything provided in the universe is pretty much the bulk of it. Just fast forward a couple hundred years and picture what we would be doing in space. We live, we entertain, we breed on planets. There's a lot more for us on a planet then there ever will be in space. Space is just a highway from one point to another. Science, trade, mining, piracy, law enforcement, and war would literally be the high points of wanting to be in space. All of which, excluding science, is available in FD in its current form. In time, the gameplay mechanics will be expanded upon to drive further personal involvement. For now though, try to see this game as an immersion and less as a goal-oriented or objective based game. And if you don't own an Oculus Rift, check out what those of us who do have been saying about it. It truly brings a whole new level to the immersion.
