On defalt settings its hold A and press up. When you hold A down the graphic tell you that pressing up will engage your SC but it will drop you out.

For me to disengage is the same button as it was to engage to begin with. It took my several hours of flying around to get the hang of it, now I can drop in where and when needed. Keep your speed in the blue and it will slow down for you. Soon as distance and speed are in blue it will let you disengage. To disengage just use whatever you used to enter FSD. For me default controls Y engages, Y again disengages. It will make a loud crash/pop then you will be right where your target is. Classic controls I believe you hold A then press up on the directional pad to engage. Once your ship is ready to disengage press the same buttons again which for classic should be A plus up on d-pad. I have restarted my save many times and have been testing many things out. It's going to take awhile to figure out.... It simply will.

Thanks for all the help people finally got it nailed down now and actually enjoying this game, still annoyed at the fact the game didn't just tell me the direct controls on things, IMO the game tutorials need a complete overhaul on the full release as they are very poor at actually showing you how to do stuff.

Amazing how that happens, isn't it :D

Peeps really have nothing to lose by trial and error, and experimenting with setups and control schemes and bindings. If it all goes horribly wrong, there is always Clear Save.

yup. I flew out, saw a couple stars, ran out of fuel and died. Got another base Sidey for free, so I still have my original 100K credits.

there's definitely room in the beginning to try stuff, die and retry before you get serious.

From my exploration of 3 systems away from the starting point:

take notes. Know what system you started in, what the station was called. When you get to half fuel, go back.

figure out how to use super cruise. warping to new systems easy. Catching up to a station is not so much (or at least what I thought was a station, but it orbited really fast).

Thirst thing I done was explorer & tried to get to earth (SOL) in the sidewinder lol FAIL! ended up in the middle of nowhere with no fuel or energy, so suffocated & blew up.

Second time I bought a new ship (Eagle) & once again, middle of nowhere, suffocated & blew up :(

Third time, I'm saving up so I can go there, bought another eagle, upgrade its engine & stuff so now I can jump just over 10LY & now trying to mine gold for a contract in Bhotho, not having much luck lol

i would say stay away from online mode, as I have had crashing when in that mode, & none in the solo mode.

You have to do some missions for the Federation to earn a pass to be allowed to go to Sol. It's a restricted system.
