what to do when no route available ?

The nav computer will only calculate out to 100 ly, and it takes a few minutes to do that so if you're trying to plot a 100ly route youre going to have to wait a couple minutes for the nav computer to do its thing. If you still cant find a route theres probably a jump necessary in there that requires a larger jump than your ship is currently capable of, so youll need to upgrade your frameshift drive.

I takes about 30 seconds to plot a route that is 80+ Ly. And if you want to jump more than 100 Ly, then you have to chunk out your travels in segments of 100 Lys. What I generally do is find the furthest point that is 100 Ly in direction I want to go, plot route there, jump there and then plan another route to my original destination.

But I imagine I would loose my mind plotting 3000+ LY jump like this. It is no understatement when you say long distance travel is its own form of art right now in Elite. The nav computer needs to get boost and calculate at least 500 Ly. Our CPUs can handle it.

Use a third party tool for long distance travels, or if the nav computer is giving you trouble. Of course your destination may just really be out of your jump drives range from any approach

No third party route planner works reliably, since they all depend on data from other players on systems that were already explored in form of static database and they do not integrate into the actual live game. So for example if you want to plan route from some backwater system in Aries Dark Sector to Witch Head nebula, you have to do it by the hand, since the data are missing on lots of systems.
