What to do when you don't know what to do?

I don't know what to do... I'm in negative nancy mood today :(

I don't have the time for PowerPlay
I don't have the patience for Trading
I don't have the drive to go Exploring
I don't have the heart to do some Pirating
I don't have the skills to be Bounty Hunting
I don't have the desire to go Mining

I have an Orca, 100M credits & 3 hours tonight to play. Any suggestions?

Play CQC? No? Me neither.
Join the Fuel Rats? (https://www.fuelrats.com/)
Take a trip out to Hutton Orbital in Alpha Centauri; bring scrap and buy the rare trade goods, of mugs and gin?
Try a rares route, it's a lot more fun than A->B->A trading and you get to see a bit of bubble?
Join a player group and see if they have some mission running that needs done?

(you probably should add something about not wanting to get involved with engineers too :p)

If you don't know what to do - DO NOTHING.

Stay here and post! :p

Or how's about this - get some permits.

...an ORCA?!? No wonder you're experiencing existential apathy :p

Spend some time with friends / family ?

It's the only time in the week my wife & daughter aren't around! I get 2 evenings a week to play, this is one of them :)

I used to just go onto another game, Rocket League or Counter-Strike, but I feel like I could be wasting game time preparing for 2.2...

Maybe I should watch One Punch Man, I've only read the Manga. ;)

That or do some long range smuggling for cash.

What do others do when they don't know what to do?

This is a given, forums are the best way to procrastinate...

An Orca ready for 2.2 :)

I could maybe buy an Imperial Eagle and try and get it above 800M/S..

I try to have one or two long term goals that my shorter term goals contribute to.

I set myself a specific and achievable goal for the play session and ignore the vastness of options.

The play session goal I try and dove-tail into the long term goal.

Why not? If you have nothing better to do, go visit an engineer and try a couple of spins in the upgrade fruit machine. You never know your luck ;)

It may not be your thing, but I tend to take long "sabbaticals" between extended play sessions. I'll play for a few weeks, then take time off to play other stuff / be with family / remember there's a world outside the studio door to explore.
Hell, maybe even catch a few pokemon! Heh!

It's always great then to come back to ED and get back into the commander's chair again. :D

Powerplay is for masochists anyway.

Trading is about planning, and then multitasking, thanks to the wonders of the internet.

Exploring is about writing your name across the stars until you go mad and return to regain your sanity with the sight of other ships and familiar space stations.

Pirating is for trolls or roleplayers, depending on how it's done.

Bounty hunting's fairly easy, if you look for "Low" or regular RES's, and/or head to high security systems; most folks head for "High" or "Hazardous" just for faster spawns & less "interference" (aka help) from AI security ships. Just all about being prepared, and of course the bigger, the better. (Though some prefer being small and fast.)

Mining is surprisingly engaging. The secret is limpets. Definitely limpets. And a bit of studying up beforehand. Best when in the mood for music, in my view, as it requires a little too much attention to allow you to multitask like trading does, but not exciting like Bounty Hunting is - sort of a good chill-out-and-distract-thyself activity.

You have an Orca? Cruise slow and low around a luxury station around an Earthlike world somewhere and enjoy the views while listening to some Led Zeppelin albums. Bring a ladyfriend if you like.

Well, apart from it being a medium sized time sink, OP doesn't keen on exploration, trading, combat, or mining all of which you need to do to some degree in order to unlock the half decent engineers and modifications. A couple of free rolls? Yeah, but he's still got to unlock even the first five.

One punch man is a great anime, haven't read the manga but is a great watch if you don't fancy playing games.

I recommend trying to learn flight assist off. Try the training mission for landing at a station in the Sidey, dont request permission to land and see how many times you can fly to the back of the hangar and touch the far wall and make it back out before the station gets angry. It's good fun!
