Newcomer / Intro What to do when you take 150.000Cr assassination contract:

  1. Fly to one of the systems mentioned in mission description
  2. Investigate a few USSs there
  3. Jump to next system from mission description
  4. Investigate USSs until you meet an NPC that will tell you the actual system your target will be
  5. You mission description will be updated
  6. Jump to that system
  7. Start investigating USSs until you find your target (usually Anaconda)
  8. Do not forget to target its FSD sub-system (or it will jump away)
  9. If it jumps away - do not track it's Wake signal - just keep investigating USSs in your current system, until you meet your target again
  10. That's it

It is actually very easy to find these targets.
I accepted 2 of these missions and while doing generic bounty hunting, I met the "woah I just survived..." NPC who gives you the proper location rather quickly and went to the system he named.
Right in, first USS I got was my target... which insta-gibbed me.

And this is how I learned about the plasma accelerator...

Same here, hilarious way of finding out how outgunned you might be... that silver ball floating towards my face and I'm thinking "whats that?" and BOOM! something learned :D

LOL are they that good? I haven't been on the receiving end yet. I did see some for sale and thought about getting some in a few more trades. :)

Well, the shots are quite slow, so I might have been able to dodge it knowing what it was... big slow targets only probably.

They are powerful but slow moving; a single shot took the A-rated shields on my Cobra down, which was my fault for being sloppy. I you use max vertical or lateral thrust while manoeuvering you can avoid them easily. I have these bound twice, to a digital hat switch and to two analogue rotaries. With the rotaries, I can keep max thrust dialled in without having to press a key, which is more effective for keeping away from the front of big ships. If you leave it on when trying to dock or launch however, expect a big explosion! :)

Actually re: the OP, I think step 3 is unnecessary; if you keep looking in USS's in any of the mission systems you will eventually find the rumour as to the target's true location....in my experience, anyway.

Ahh if they are slow moving I might give them a miss coupled with the cost. What are the recommend weapon combos on a Cobra? I've been trading mostly so just stuck with Pulse Lasers all round, but they seem poor against anything hard/shielded.

On the bonus side the stories behind some of those contracts are quite cool.

Yesterday got to find this character, Tom Jung. Apparently he been spreading his religious gospel into a nearby system and the guys there didn't like it a bit and of course wanted him removed and labelled him as a terrorist and a danger to the stability blah blah blah, so I had to go to hunt him down to a Shrine system. I mean... an entire system dedicated to religion with Zealots and all that fancy stuff.

I found a Lakon 7 merchant which shared his history and how he was... approached by all the fanatics and gave me the new position of my target.

Eventually found him and in all honesty he didn't seem that dangerous, actually he was clean and didn't have any bounty anywhere from the KWS, but a contract is a contract.

He was a "holy man" which didn't even fight back, he just tried to run away most of the time. But a contract is a contract.

Obviously now I am wanted for good in his native system ( is totally Independent not affiliated with any faction same as my contractor system ).

A good evening hunt with a interesting background story. Will follow some more missions to see how the whole situation evolves.
