I have elite dangerous and I want to update. Do I buy a season Pass? Or elite dangerous horizons? Or are they one and the Same?

One and the same, the current season is called Horizons.
We are about half way through the "season", 2.2 just came out, 2.3 & 2.4 to come.
Season 2 will probably finish around mid 2017 ish, then it'll be season 3 which will be a new season pass.
