What triggers the Palin invite?

I've unlocked Qwent. I'm over 5,000ly out in the black from pretty much anywhere in the bubble and I was sort of expecting to get a message invite, but so far nothing.

Thoughts?

I did the same - went out, puzzled about Palin being so quiet, gave up, came back, did other Engineers, then found the blocker ;)

Do you still have to hunt for Thargoid Sensors (or whatever they're now called) and ram them with your ship to get the stuff to unlock Palin?

Or was that something else entirely?

I remember having to do it and it was boring as hell.

Yes, I just did it for my new alt.
It was super easy at this place, no relogs for me:

It's a little hard to see down there but that's about it.

You need to get to rank 3.3 with Elvira Martuuk in Khun to get the Qwent invite.
Then you need a permit for Sirius. Fastest way to is to do missions for Sirius Corp in Procyon, Luyten's Star, Luhman 16, Avik, Mildeptu, Luyten 674-15, LHS 380, Ross 446. Get Allied with Sirius Corp and then look for the Permit Acquisition mission on the mission board. That allows you to jump into Sirius.
You will need 25 Modular Terminals to unlock Qwent, so if you get any as a reward from Sirius missions, take them.
You need grade 3.3 with Qwent to get the Palin invite.
Travel 5 kylies from your start position and 25 sensor fragments (shot up Thargoid Sensors) and Palin will unlock for you.

Once you have the invite, you can visit Palin's base to pick up corrosion resistant cargo racks without necessarily unlocking Palin.

With hindsight, and some of the kit we have now, I guess I could have done it more easily.

I just loitered in some system, looking for UAs, then rammed them to get a couple of fragments from each one.
I was under the impression that just bringing a UA aboard would be terminal for my ship.

I guess that now, especially with the C4 CR cargo rack, you could just fill up a Krait's hold with UAs, take 'em all up into orbit, dump 'em and ram 'em to get double the amount of fragments from each one.

I did the ramming the first time.
I was sure a 'Goid was going to punish me!
lol

Both fragments and UAs are lying all over the place at that site in that link.
The whole thing only took about 10 mins or so.
