What unit of distance is the Speedometer based off of while on "impulse" drives?

When you drop out of supercruise, to dock with stations, engage in combat, interact with players/npcs, etc... What unit of measurement is the speed based on?

Say I am going 100. What is that? 100 KPh? 100mph? 100kps? Just curious.

It's m/s.

Now you mention it, I'm actually surprised the scale isn't shown somewhere.

I can sort of understand the sensor scale not being shown, since that's based on how far you can fly in a set amount of time and varies with your speed... but there doesn't seem to be a reason for the speed scale not to be shown. In fact... I'm pretty sure I remember the scale being in there at some point. Weird.

Indeed, metres per second it is. Here's some a random facts related to that:

The conversion from m/s to km/h is to multiply 3.6, so the fastest ship in the game (Cobra), which can reach boost speeds of over 460m/s, can move at twice the speed of a commercial airliner (~800km/h). This is also faster than the top speed of an F-16 at sea level, but slower than the Concorde while it was in service. It is not faster than the speed of sound, as there is no sound in a vacuum.
