General / Off-Topic What was the best John Wayne movie ever made?

I have to go with Big Jake (c1971). Produced by the Wayne family and Hollywood went all out putting everything John Wayne ever did in a western movie. Elmer Bernstein was awesome with the music setting the tone and Richard Boone as the bad guy can make a movie we will want to see forever. Some may go with 'The Shootist ' (c1976) because the actor was actually dying of cancer but like my three dogs who will die long before me I look for their brightest moments.

So what is your favorite John Wayne movie?

My Nan loved his films, I'd sit and watch them with her, we'd really enjoy them. iIt was only later in life when I found out about him, personally, that I stopped watching them.

"The Longest Day" is surely a film that stays in my memory. Although he was only an actor.

Not a big Wayne fan although enjoyed the films i've seen him in. I'm sure i've seen dozens over the years although i can't really recall most. Largely films just watched on a wet Sunday afternoon as a kid.

Also not a big fan of cowboy films, so probably why most of those never stuck in my mind.

I did enjoy Sands of Iwo Jima.

Often when we become very famous, we end up becoming "invisible", like the furniture in the house that we no longer see after many years. :)

Everybody knows that if you want to make a good western you have to ask an Italian.
John Ford, Sam Peckinpah and John Sturges would like a word.
The Searchers is my fave Duke movie.
Directed by John Ford. Screenplay by Frank S. Nugent, based on the novel by Alan Le May.
Starring John Wayne, Jeffrey Hunter, Vera Miles, Wad Bond, Natalie Wood.
