Now that we have had a day or so to reflect, I would like to ask what was the most important part of the much-anticipated Gamescom announcement of Elite Horizons.

There are only two selections, so there can be no waffling (or thread merges, hopefully). :)

It took me a while to weigh the options there, but I think I've finally landed at my personal opinion. On the one hand there is the price, which some find outrageous, but I care not even a little bit about. On the other hand there is the announcement of planetary landings which I feel pretty optimistic about.

It's a hard choice, but I'm sticking with it.

Well spoken.

Given it is a Expansion the price is pretty steep.

Throw on top of this the main game is still a work in progress and needs for more polish to call it completed I find it a little insulting with the obvious cash grab horizons will be..

Really get the main game finished before asking for more cash for another expansion which will obviously be unfinished as well.

What will happen is nothing will ever be finished....

DLC is something like the dreaded Oblivion horse armor DLC. This is a proper expansion. Its like calling some ones yacht a dingy.

It's the content for me. I figured I'd have to pay full game price so the £10 (or $15) discount was a welcome surprise. Fd also added something that you don't get unless you purchase season 1, which I also expected them to do to give new people incentive to buy Season 1. The pricing model was no surprise to me. The content, landing on planets also wasn't really a surprise. I knew they'd be introducing something that they had planned but hadn't made it into 1.0 release. I had hoped it would be leaving the pilot's chair and walking around, but hey, planetary landings are good.

The most important part of the Horizons announcement is not listed in your mere two biased options.
I know what it is, obviously the OP doesn't agree with me.

Horizons is not a DLC...

DownLoadable Content - Horizons is an expansion with content that will be downloaded (they're not doing a physical disc as far as I know at this time, and even if they did, it would probably install a launcher that would download everything).

In case anyone was wondering (and I doubt they were) the most important part of the announcement was that the first expansion will be delivered within a year of the official release as was promised two years ago ... not pricing or content.

Keeping that promise has meant more to a lot of people after what are considered many broken promises and it goes a long way to restoring faith in Frontier within the community.

I am really longing for some enjoyable content in ED so I can return and have fun. I hope they've spent this year building a great addition to the game that will not make it more grindy, but will make it more interesting.

No waffles?

Depressing, is it not. :)

The OP was not even aware of the Elite Kickstarter promises two years ago. Judging from the responses to the DDA discussions, the promise of the first expansion within a year of the official release counts for less than unfinished, and promised, base content.

You're the OP, so why refer to the OP as if it's someone else, it's you, just say that you weren't aware of it, which is fair enough you weren't, but it was still stated during the kickstarter, even if you weren't aware of it. Apollo 11 landed on the Moon before I was even aware of it, doesn't change that it still happened.
Again someone still using the "unfinished" argument ... Who is to say if it's unfinished? Frontier, that's who ... for you or I to say it's unfinished is, like, your opinion man ... yes I would like things in there that aren't in there and things not in there that are ... but it's not for me or you to decide on how "finished" it is.

Why don't you guys complain to Microsoft about the unfinished OS's they put out. They're always updating them. If they were finished, they wouldn't need to update them, right?

I purchased and received a complete game on release; finished? It will never be finished until they finally close the servers; there's always more content to add. So it wasn't to your expectations. Boohoo. It was still more finished than Windows. It had some bugs in it. And windows doesn't?

Would you like some cheese with that whine?

Yeah it was content for me, announcing "colossal" things is cool and all, but if you don't have the media to back it up then, getting people to pre-purchase end's up on past expectations, and we got a tiny 30sec trailer that showed me a ship landing and a buggy, and nothing else

Lets just look at a good example of announcing something.

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/legion/#home

website, trailer, gameplay footage, features, concept art, cool stuff ! And they arn't even trying to get pre-orders yet.

But its not a huge issue, I can wait, and its probably better for me to wait, based on past experiences.

Fan Boi Rant..

Windows 10 is also free for those with Windows 7 + 8 because the very reason you state..

So are you saying that FD should release Horizons for free?? I don't think that would be fair ED isn't a bad game but yes it is unfinished. Maybe they should just release the expansion a little cheaper???
