What was the Type 8? (or Types 1 thru 5 for that matter)

Hey all, it's just a rando question while grinding away between stations... Any info from prev games etc about a Lakon Type 8 freighter? Or any below a Type 6 or above a Type 9?

Edit: okay let me try again, lol... Did any of these ships actually exist in prior editions of Elite?

Those variations didn't make it through prototyping or field testing.

Happens quite often that there are missing numbers because the previous iterations were nonviable and weren't slated for mass production.

No, the Lakon Type Xs are new to Elite Dangerous, although there are a few ship types that performed similar roles, such as the Transporter

Valid question.
By the way and while we are at it... what happened with Windows 9?

As I understand it, there were programs that were looking for an OS that started with Windows 9x which would confuse the bejesus out of it (expecting Windows 95 and ending up with Windows 9 instead).

Lol okay I updated my question as I wanted to know if they actually existed in the earlier Elite games.

Hi Cmdr RadiKyle. No. They weren't in the original Elite (1980s). I'm not sure about the PC version of the 90s.

The ships that you are familiar with, and that were in the original Elite are : Sidewinder, Cobra Mk III, Python, Anaconda, Viper, and Asp Mk II.
The Conda was the go to trade vessel, but others were available.
There were no complex ship designs or detailed boxy shapes because being rendered as wire frames on screen they had to be recognisable from any orientation. So all ships were wedge or cone type designs for that reason.
Hat's off to Frontier for choosing a good selection of ships from the original, and then re-imagining them beautifully, The Cobra Mk III for example looks today exactly like it did in my imagination in 1984.
They couldn't use all the original ships because then you'd have a Gal full of wedgy cone ships. But someone decided not to take the old names and attach them to new designs, and that was a good decision.

Ha ha I think I never made it out of the sidewinder in '84. Took me a while to figure out the rotating mail slot lol.

A long time ago someone made a model of the hypothetical "type 10 precision". (not a real ship.) Does anyone else remember it?
