What we need for real immersion

We need to simulate all the things that a pilot of a space ship would do. Especially important on long voyages to Jacques and SagA.

You want to jump? Sorry CMDR. Please wait 30 seconds. Your avatar is busy brushing his teeth.

Or maybe you are getting burned by the heat from 2 stars.... Too bad. Please wait 5 minutes to deploy heat sinks. The avatar is busy taking a nap.

Dont even get me started on SRV repair. FREE AND INSTANT

and of course no one has any problems when it comes to synthesis of missiles. This is not star trek. You are not supposed to be able to instantly materialize complex objects out of thin air. Any lore to back this up?
And yet I do not see any complaints about this.

And how do our avatars survive without Food? No one ever questions that.

And maybe the next time your ship gets to 200% heat, you should set your chair on fire too.... You know, for that feeling of realism

But paying someone to fly one of your ships to where you are is now considered magic??? So maybe they will have to buy and sell an A rated FSD as part of the process. Doesn't make a difference.

And some of you guys have this fake outrage and pretend that it is magic because for the sake of gameplay FD decided to remove a timer that in most cases would have been only around 10 or 15 minutes? Get over yourselves. Its a game.

Even the most realistic flight simulator allows you to start from any airport in its database. No delay or plane rental needed to let you do what you came to do - fly a plane.

I don't want a mechanic in the game which renders half of the existing game irrelevant. I think if you are in favor of instantaneous ship transfer, you should play another game. It simply does not fit here. Oh, and immersion has nothing to do with it, it's a strawman.

also today, we've had "if you want instant transfer play another game" and "casuals are ruining this game with calls for instant transfer". I'd swing that around: if you want to play an accurate space-simulator, Elite isn't it. Never has been, and never will be. And I've been playing it since 1984. Go fire up Space Engine or Celestia or even Kerbal if you want physically accurate space sims. Elite is a GAME. Like Star Citizen and No Man's Sky and countless others. it has game mechanics. Most of which aren't accurate or makes sense.

"mechanic which renders half of the existing game irrelevant"

the only part of the game it renders irrelevant is buying a hauler and making 30 jumps to another station to pick up your other ship, then selling the hauler. THAT IS ALL. If that is "half of your existing game" then you NEED instant transfer more than I do :p

This game is but a toy... As an adult I am not going to tell you how to play with this toy. You can make it a space ship or you can pretend it's an srv I don't care. I'm going to implement options to hint at different ways toy can play with this toy without restricting your imagination.

You can take instant ship transfer and take control of your toy immediatly or you can set it a side and continue to play with the original toy you feel like you waited long enough for the toy to fit it in what ever timeline your fantasy world requires.

All in all it's a toy... Just have fun kids it's not the end of the world!

1.
I am the Pilot and Commander of my Ship.
Given that upon Logging out my Ship is Just Idling somewhere. My Avatar has a        g 22 Hours a Day in which he does nothing but Spend Time in his Ship with Cooled Down Engines being pretty much Invisible in Normal Space and going after his own Life.
This Includes Brushing his Teeth. Sleeping and whatever else.
And given that he is not Sitting in this Pilot Chair any longer than I am Sitting on my Computer Chair. I would assume that he has more than enough Time.

2.
You can Repair and Synthesize certain stuff in the Game. Lore for this is the same as the entire History of Humanity. In Short it does not exist. Just accept it that its there.
Not very immersive. But if we started on this. You seriously you would need to start years ago with the Jump Drive etc etc. :p

3.
My Ship Weights some Hundred Tons. So I would assume I got Reserves for at least 1 or 2 Years Aboerd.

4.
Unlikely. Because if your Oven is Cooking Food for you with 300 Degrees inside. That doesnt Change your Room Temperature to 300 Degrees does it :)
When your Armor Breaks thanks to Heat your Dead anyways. No need to Worry about it anymore :p
Oh wait another Immersion Breaker. How about we Talk about Perma Death ^^

5.
Well I think the Big Majority only considers it Magic if it happens Instantly. I myself voted for the Option that it should take an Similar amount of time that a Player would need for that Number of Jumps.

So well. Thanks for the Comment.
But I would say we keep the Timer for Transfering the Ship ;)

people aren't complaining "this is space-magic that doesn't make sense", cos 80% of elite is space-magic that doesn't make sense. They are complaining "this is space-magic that will allow other players to do things I don't want them to do". seems to me, if they are honest.

I'm with you on that one.... So much angst. Over some ingame minutes. I don't buy it either... The wave of anxiety was palpable...
Only a few mentioned it, for fear of invoking the bogeymen... Or so they didn't sound, well, scared maybe?

The implications of tranfer, delayed, instant, whatever, irrelevent really, too subjective... Is simply that the powerful combat assets are going to be on the move...

They do say always be careful of what you wish for ;)

Look, I can just ignore instant ship transfer, set my own availability timer, but some people are asking why does this high-tech world that can print my ship need me to deliver superconductors, or micro controllers, or any one of the other commodities that would be components of my ship? If they can print them, they can print them, full stop.

Another instant transfer/repair/ anything that makes it a game post.

This game isnt "Sim Space Life". Eve already owns the market on how to press a button and wait for 2 weeks of real time to be able to learn how to flush the toilet.

Its also not a survival game. Survival games take place in small areas like planets or islands or whatnot. Even then its very stylized because a real survival simulator would not make a very good game. I can teach you how to kill an clean and dress anything from a rabbit to a cow if you would like. It takes a long time and is not all that fun but it allows you to survive.

Well we can easily play the hyperbole game the opposite way.

Clearly, nothing whatsoever should get in the way of gameplay and any downtime at all is absolutely unacceptable. And by gameplay, of course, I mean pew-pew.

With that goal in mind, the following arbitrary time sinks will be eliminated entirely:

*Supercruise. You can now teleport directly from station to station, or teleport directly to CZs/RES/Signals/PoIs and back. You can bring cargo with you for instant trading.

*Fuel limits. Your gameplay should never be interrupted by having to return for fuel or fuel scooping.

*Scanning: All scanners work instantly and automatically on everything within sensor range, from KWS to DSS.

*Ammo limits. Same as fuel.

*Repairs. Your hull and modules will now rapidly regenerate when not taking hull damage.

*Ranking. Ranks are simply removed from the game entirely.

There you go. All time sinks terminated with extreme prejudice. Now nothing whatsoever stands in the way of jumping into instant action on demand, right this second.

Even though you are probably being sarcastic, I would be all for most of these time sinks to be greatly reduced, not necessarily eliminated.

Because the image was removed as not relevant, I'll reiterate in words that this thread is an example of the Slippery Slope Fallacy.

Question one: Have you ever seen your avatar?
Question two: Are you familiar with the still suits from Dune?
Any more questions?

Yes. Question 3) Given the other avatars in the game, do we really really want to see our avatar? And question 4) If you are familiar with Fremen Still Suits, are there 'specialist parties' involving their use?
