What will be included in the final version of Planet Coaster?

Hi I'm just posting this thread to see if anyone knows what Frontier will be working for the final version of the game when it officially launches. I'm currently playing Alpha 2.0, but there's alot of things I see that I think need improving. I'm going to list them here.

  • I know the loops all need working on on the coasters they look awkward, too tight and not smooth. I understand that this is just an Alpha phase but I'm wondering if this will be taken into account.
  • Coaster train needs to flow through the circuit and segements more smoothly, the animation when the coaster train rides through some segments of track looks a little bit choppy.
  • Ability to customise on how many coaster trains we want on the track and how many cars per train. Also to have preset custom carriages to choose from, for example the flying coaster train looks like a manta I would like just a standard one.
  • Option to toggle on and off height markers on the coaster track, we don't have this option but it would be good if this feature was implemented.
  • I know I'm fussy but I would like to see a pre drop element to choose on the coasters aswell and pre built drop turn segments, for example if you've played Theme Park Studio it gives you the option to build one of their pre built drops.

If anyone can answer this question it would be appreciated and if you can see anything that's wrong or missing in the game that you would like to see post it in your reply [happy]

You must be new here...

As by the name... the game is in alpha stage and they just introduced the coaster builder and have said on multiple occasions that this is just the beginning for the coaster designer. Things like adding more trains and and different types of trains and whatnot will be added later. What you see now if only for people to play around with the editor so the developers have an idea of what to change in the programming and base design for when they roll out the full version.

You can't go into the alpha with the mindset that this is what the final game will be, there will obviously be a ton more in the final version and things like choppiness have to do with the optimization of th game engine which usually is the last thing companies do in the process of building a game once they have the full scale of what exactly needs to be optimized and smoothed over, so things like the choppiness have to do with you playing an alpha.

And no, there is no official word from them on what the final game will have or not have, mostly because they are still creating the game and likely have no idea themselves yet. Enjoy the alpha and bring up these complaints when they start announcing what will and won't be included in the game and have a release date.

Nail + head....

Also, we're at least 4 months away from release. The more they want to include in the final release, the longer it will take, obviously. Honestly, I can't see the game being released this year. Not because it is in any way bad, but as a community we are very demanding. We are asking for way more stuff that the developers probably could have imagined.

Honestly, I'm in no rush. Frontier can take their time, and i have total confidence that PC will be an absolutely cracking game. The Alpha's have been great, and things can only get better from here, as more features and content are added. I know people are excited, but we need to have some patience!

  • I too, as many others have commented about the choppiness of the coaster builder, but I imagine that by the time of the final release this will be ironed out.
  • I like the idea of being able to have more than one train running (with the use of block segments), maybe this is in the plans (at least I hope so, with the addition of tranfer tracks, switch tracks, and elevator tracks).
  • I also like the idea of having a choice of more than one train type per track (maybe this is a licensing issue, I don't know).
  • I too have played Theme Park Studio (from the very beginning) and must say that their prebuilt sections and the ability to delete and/or add different types of supports is a big plus for that game and would be for Planet Coaster.
  • Yes, before anyone says it, I will say it - Planet Coaster is in Alpha and will change, but these things would be nice.

This is now sounding like Roll...cough, cough !

Honestly, with alphas every 2 months, I wouldn't mind it staying in alpha for a bit longer and get a perfect game at the end. Maybe with a steam release and a cheaper early bird to help bring in more money to keep development going. (Much like what rctw has done, but better [squeeeeee])

There's a lot still to do, but, look at how much was added in the last 2 months. It seems obvious to me there are going to be a limited number of scenery themes (base, pirate, and maybe 2 others) in the base game, the rest will probably be DLC. I remember huge amounts of stuff in the old rct games, but, then again that was with all of the expansion packs. The big things for the next alpha will likely be one more scenery theme, transport rides (I think they mentioned block sections for rollercoasters too) and water, and maybe basic park management.

What makes that obvious to you? As many people have said before the game is in alpha, that is why there is only 1 theme at the moment. Alpha is about testing the core functionality of the game, and we have enough content to do that with: I expect the rest of the content will be given to us in beta at the earliest, if not all of it at final release. And just as a side-note, there are already files for more than 4 themes in the games install directory.

I am asking myself why people are so fond of getting things cheap or for free. As long as there is a value behind it i can't find something wrong with earning money over DLC.

What will be in game exactly except Frontier noone can tell.
And they would be mad to reveal it now or till the release of the game

Oh yes I understand the process, and that Alpha stages are alot different to Beta as Alpha is a very early build, Beta is more finished representation of the game mainly for just cleaning up bugs and glitches.

I personally don;t see any issues with the builder other than the fact I preferred the Alpha 1 interface for building. It was much easier to judge the rotation of the track with the tool itself being above the track's horizontal, rather than the comparative guesswork we have now. Building itself other than that now is EASY and I can't see how it could be improved much, the only thing I'd like is total freedom to build custom loops but that will come apparently.

One thing I will observe is it will be choppy if you dont untick the angle snap option. I have watched Youtubers trying to line something up and getting frustrated when all they had to do was untick that option for total freedom of movement.

I think the OP understands that this is just an Alpha, as evidenced by their statement "I understand that this is just an alpha..." I think the point is, what will things be like AFTER the Alpha? And in that context I think there are a lot of valid questions.

I think we are definitely confirmed for Generic, Pirate, Fairy Tale, and Sci Fi for the initial release being that they've shows us rendering of them working on them. We've got a long ways to go before release so i'm hoping we get at least 2 more themes for a well rounded number (hopefully Western/Desert and maybe Spooky) so each park doesn't look like the same few themed areas. I'm also hoping theme pieces can be altered such as color and brightness to also add to the diversity.

I believe just before the release of alpha 1, Kerrash amongst others was invited to come play with the alpha in London before others could, and he also had a chat with some of the devs. I remember he was told there would be 94 themes in PC. This turned out to be a overstatement that Kerrash took too literal, but it was figure of speech which basically meant there is going to be a great number of themes in the final version of PC. (I remember because this caused a bit of an uproar on alpha release day, which had to be shushed down quickly by the devs.)
Therefore I expect at least 10 themes with more being added in expansion packs. We'll see though. If all the themes are as eloborate and beautiful as the pirate theme we're in for a feast even with as little as 6 themes at launch.

There are some salty replies here. What's wrong with asking for improvements, or more value for your buck? Just because someone asks for more doesn't mean the game is going to be canceled or something. "It's an alpha!" We know it's an alpha! This is the time to voice our concerns!

I think the saltiness comes from him asking the community about something everyone obviously has no answer for. He didn't ask Frontier, he asked all of us, as if we know what the Frontier has chosen to be included in the final version. Also half of these things have been talked about before and are in the forums here and I think many people get frustrated when people don't do a search before inquiring about certain things.
