what will happen if exploration gets upgraded per DDF?

In the Developer Discussion Forum days, Exploration was going to be a bit more involved-

if it wasnt a nav jump already in your ships computer- it was a jump you had to "plot" with discovery scanners and such

You would sent a probe, scan, determine an aiming point, do a mini jump, reprobe rescan, and the better you got at doing it, the less repetitions it would take.

Ultimately, you would have plotted a jump route to a new unexplored star. your ship can now jump that route as if it was a normal jump route. You could sell that jump data, share if with friends only, or keep it to yourself.

It all sounded very exciting. Of course, we didnt get that sort of exploration... and by now, people have been to the center of the galaxy and beyond.

What if this exploration module came out in an update? and now we had to scan down new jump paths? is it too late to do that now?? I fear that it IS.

To do so would strand people far from home.. they arent going to wipe the galaxy clean and start everybody off in the human space bubble, are they?

It just makes me sad that the dreamed of mechanics may be too far beyond possibility. Pandora's Galaxy has been opened. No one's going to want to do it the explorer way.

I'm sure the Devs are planning future "galactic content" in future expansions.
The rate in which Cmdrs are exploring the 400 billion procedurally generated systems is astonishing. You only have to see the level of exploration by fellow commanders out in deep space to appreciate that.
I think as explorers we do want to do it "the explorers way" but we can only explore within the parameters the Devs set us. One of the things that irks me is the monetary tagging the game puts on explorer rank: pilots federation promotion within the explorer cadre purely off cartographic data sold? Seems wrong to me that, but that's another thread by another Cdr.
Let's see what Horizons brings. I am quietly excited about it.
