its very much down to personal preference i'm affraid, now you can get addons for 8 to bring back the full start bar functionality there isn't that much difference between the 2.

8 is supposed to run a little faster but my personal preference is 7, then again if your just using it for ED you may as well go with 8, once its loaded you wont be doing much but starting the game.

I suspected as much; I wonder which is the smaller build? *rubs chin*

Also, how big is the game... just thinking in terms of partitioning my SSD.

I use Win8.1 update 1 and I think it's very good indeed. Once you get used to working without a Start Button it's actually a far better and faster way to work. But it did take me about a week to get used to, and I am a heavy work user.

Is it faster? No. I tested it and it's not faster. It has some very cool functionality such as HyperV built in, but to be honest I think that you would only use that if Windows was your primary OS.

The thing to be mindful of is that Windows 8 is well into its lifecycle now, so more and more you will find people supporting Win8.x but not Win7. Do you really want to be installing a legacy OS right now?

Game in beta is 4GB only.

at this point its only 2.6 gb but its bound to get bigger.

also just had a look on the MS site, you need 16 to 20 gb for a win 7/8 install at minimum, 16 for 32 bit, 20 for 64 bit

add the game as well plus give yourself a little room for screenshots and i would give yourself a minimum of 30gb space

where did you get 4gb? it only shows as 2.57 in my app data folder?

Thanks chaps...

I have left 100GB for the windows partition so all should be good...

... now I need to get one of those ridiculous HOTAS things. I'm quite keen to see how the game fares on my machine.

Windows 7 vs Windows 8 does depend on how old your mac is due to the Bootcamp it can run.
My Mac Pro 3.1 can't support Windows 8.
Not a problem though... I got a pukka version of Windows 7 professional 64bit for £36 and it's pretty good.
And ED is simply amazing :D

I'm on the latest Retina MacBook Pro with the 2GB GT750.. should do it!

I might actually build a PC for gaming/rendering

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.....paid about £35 I think or thereabouts. Assuming you've got a newish Mac, you'll need 64 bit.

What the difference 8 makes I don't know......can't stand it on a PC personally, so that counted 8 out.

If you can pick up Win7 for 35 quid it's a steal in all fairness. From a gamer perspective the difference is negligible.

I didn't realise it was so cheap now, that's very good news.

I've been boot camping with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on my Mac Pro. Works like a dream. Can't stand the aesthetic of Windows 8, but that's subjective. From what I've heard 8.1 runs just as well.

On the subject of iMacs. I run Bootcamp with Windows 8.1 on my iMac from mid 2010. It's an i5 with a 1gb ATI 5750. Will this run ED?

That's very similar to mine, and I have no problems on max graphic settings getting 25-30fps. I expect you'll be ok with medium settings.
