Hardware & Technical What works best?

Hey guys!

So I'm very new to the world of PC gaming and what I've learned is that my computer is not really up to the task. Unfortunately I'm also not too switched on to what the technical specs are for a decent gaming PC. I've found a great site to build a gaming PC but since I don't know what I'm doing I don't want to build a PC that's overkill for facebook and not enough to play pacman.

Is there anyone here that can tell me what basic components I would need for a gaming PC that's able to run elite dangerous? I don't need a supercomputer I just need whatever works.

I would really appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Thanks

Something along the lines of:

i5 4440 CPU
H97 or Z97 Motherboard (Asus, Gigabyte, MSI for example)
GTX750ti GPU
8GB (2 x 4GB) of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM
450W (or higher) Bronze (or better) certified PSU from a good brand (Corsair, Seasonic, Cooler Master, BeQuiet for example)

I strongly suggest you start with the best motherboard you can afford, with the best CPU. Also a good powerful PSU.

Start with one SSD and expand later. Also get an external DVD. You rarely use these and having it start up every morning will soon get old.

OS, get the best of a very bad lot. M$ have lost the plot recently, but remain the only real choice. Which one to get is the question. W10 is due next year.

You can get other things as your budget allows. There are so many graphics cards around at the moment. But the word seems to be that most are based upon old technology and something new is on the horizon. If you can survive for the time being, you can use a cheap card. I used a £20 card for a few years and it was quite amazing. Though faced with Elite, it did kinda embarrass itself, if you see what I mean.
