What would you consider to be you greatest achievement in Elite (any version) to date

I guess mine would be making elite in the Amstrad tape version (buggy as hell on release) which they did a recall on with a replacement yiu had to send off for in exchange for you original tape. Didnt want to be parted fromthe game so got elite despite numerous crashes before sending in for replacement. ANyone else remember getting the certificate when you reached Elite status?

My greatest achievement in elite 2 was buying a panther clipper and finally getting my crew just to notice I can't launch because of too high gravity. Switched back to the Boa afterwards :D

Without doubt making Elite in the original BBC Micro version 30 years ago. The thrill was unrepeatable, but if I ever make it in ED I'll let you know if it feels as good!

In the present game? Probably my first PvP kill (no piracy or griefing, a legitimate combat target in a conflict zone) and my first comms chat. Both made me feel part of the greater ED community.

Destroying a space station full of Thargoids (also on the Amstrad tape version). And that took me over the threshold from Deadly to Elite. That was a badass Cobra I was flying in those days. Cloaking device, ECM jammer, the works. The one I have now needs a fair few more upgrades I think.

Yep No energy bomb n this one :)

Actually getting a hang of Newtonian flight in Frontier Elite 2 feels like the world's greatest accomplishment to me.

Getting to Deadly in an 8 hour stint while bunking off school on my Acorn Electron closely followed but my biggest downer of pressing the break key while reaching for the tape to save it

In the original Elite...best feels ever? Landing on the space station the first time. Buying my first landing computer. After that everything was gravy!

Question...My friend claims that he was in a system and found a VERY LARGE SHIP. He described it as a colony ship? I never saw it....but hey, I never doubted my buddy! I wish there was a screen shot or someone could recreate one from old code. It sounded awesome as he was describing it!

That's really interesting because I could swear I saw something similar in the ST version, but I'm not sure if it's my memory playing tricks on me.

I did hear of this way back perhaps BBC micro version / amiga had it but never found it on any of the versions I bought. Perhaps an urban legend? Maybe some of you guys did find it ?

Mr DB could ofc lay this to rest

My best achievement was I think I got to the nission where you have to find the stealth prototype, can't remember what rank I was but I know I never made it to Elite.

The generation ships are part of Elite lore and I don't think they were in the game for real.

I will make it to Elite status in ED you can bet your bottom dollar on that.

maybe not an achievement as such but i found rotating stations easy and natural as soon as i picked up the game and not a single docking crash so far. it seems playing the original excessively while my brain was developing hard-wired station docking into my brain lol.

Becoming Elite in the original (and best) BBC Model B version and getting a really smart metal Elite badge from Acornsoft after I posted in a photo of my TV screen showing it. :)

ohh.. and surviving a tense battle in witchspace with several Thargoid ships when only equipped with a pulse laser and getting home to tell the tale.

Frontier Elite 2: Aside from actually once managing to manually land on a station with not much drama, I would say the most memorable moment was when I realised that my Panther Clipper could empty most planet's food reserves and leave them all starving and hungry :) Slightly evil and twisted, but fun none the less.

Making Elite on the BBC all those years ago, currently I'd swap all that for my first kill ....... I could cry 😜

Yes indeed.
Also: landing on a high gravity planet for the first time after my landing computer got destroyed and having not enough fuel to make it to the nearest space station in another system. It took me hours to get it right and many crashes.

Making Elite in Frontier: Elite 2.

I only got to Deadly in Elite.

....it was a decade+ before I read somewhere that it was much easier to get to Elite in E2 :D
