what would you like to see when walking around space stations and your own ship

It's pretty safe to say that getting out of your ship and walking around anywhere is very much pie-in-the-sky at this point. David is taking the right approach by holding off on any commitments in that area until the game is out. As he said himself, it would be very easy to get this all wrong. A lot of serious thought needs to be put into what the players are doing in the game and how their experience can be enhanced with new features rather than just tacking on something that's completely superfluous to the rest of the game (*cough* Eve Online *cough*).

Until the game is actually out and people are playing it, it's very hard to say what the next good move is going to be.

I quite agree the X rebirth videos look far more cartoony than the star citizen ones. As yet we haven't seen any videos of the ED cockpit and I can't wait to see this. The X rebirth cockpit for me doesn't have any depth of field and the instruments inside the cockpit look very flat. I'm not sure I will bother buying this one for these two reasons!

do you think you will buy Star citizen when it comes out in November 2014 or will ED be enough for you? Do you think they are going to be too similar to warrant buying both, although it would be nice to get a comparison!

Yeah, the depth-of-field is a problem. It's a weird and artificial technique. Mind you, it's not that different to some racing games I've played, where everything seems to get flattened out. I'm hoping that the Elite cockpits will be modelled more realistically, though.

I've already got both, as I backed the Star Citizen campaign. To be honest, even if Star Citizen's gameplay is more to my tastes, I can't imagine I'll play it as much as I'll play Elite... For one thing, I'm on the DDF, so there should be interesting things going on with that. For another, I feel much more involved with the community here, and that will probably be a big draw. At the moment, I'm predicting that I'll play Star Citizen mainly for the single player stuff, and will buy all of the mission disks that come out.
