What would you say is the minimum to buy a T6?

I'm cruising around in a Viper at the moment, I think I put in an extra 700.000-800.000 or so. I'm making some money bounty hunting, but unless I get lucky and come across a 150.000 Anaconda, I only make that much in 90 minutes I think. So I want to get back into trading again, because I actually kinda miss it after weeks of shooting :) I have about 1.3 million in the bank right now, which is enough to buy a T6.
Would it be wise to run with a stock T6 for a while or would you suggest earning some more money first before buying one?
Also, what is the insurance cost of a T6? I obviously don't want to leave port without knowing I have enough to at least cover my ship if I get blown to pieces.

You could go with a Cobra for a few runs and then trade it in for a T6.

You can get around 50 tons of cargo into a Cobra, a few runs of that, and you will have enough for a reasonable T6.

I got my T6 at about 2.7 million.
Kitted out with mostly D class modules it will cost you ~1.5m but you wanna have some Cr left for cargo which can be anywhere between 200k and 1.3m depending on what you are hauling and of course there's the 50-60k insurance...

You can fly with that piece of art from shipyard, but ....

If you have a nice short jump route, then double the cost of ship plus cargo(depends what you trade up to 1,5milion), if you need a longer jump then add another milion.

of course you can make it hard way, grinding slowly while flying it.

Fully loaded, it'll run you 1M ship costs and almost 6M for full upgrades. Full upgrades aren't necessary unless you're going to trade rares. Insurance for that ship is just over 100k if I remember correctly. Carries 96 with shields and disco scanner, more without.

about 100 CR above its base cost.
.
I live on the edge no insurance and buy each ship as soon as possible and build it up as quickly as possible
.
insurance is for wimps and people who cant fly straight

You dont really need to upgrade the t6 off the bat to start, although maxing the storage space as soon as possible is preferable. Out side of that I would ensure I had about 2 million to fill the sucker up with more expensive cargo and cover the insurance fees a couple of times over to get me started, there is little point buying a ship unless you can afford to make use of the extra storage.

A decent kitted T6 cost roughly 2 million (A or B class FSD and the rest D class, no weapons but shields, chaff and point defense) plus about 100k insurance and maybe a million in cash to buy high-price goods for. Afterall, you got 104 ton capacity cargo-hold to fill.

So, 3 million and change give you a good start in a Type 6. Though, being a trader and if playing in open, I'd keep a ship in storage just in case you do something silly, or someone evil comes along to ruin your day.

You want to buy D rating modules as well as a good Friendship Drive. In addition to that you need credits for rebuy costs + bounties + 2x cargo. having the credits for cargo twice will ensure that you can go on trading after death.

A full Type6 can cost up to a million on death when trading with high value goods like gold or so.

if you are gonna do gold > hightech, prog cells/perf enhancers -> refinery then you will want about 3 million to 4 million

A bit over 1m to buy it and 1.8m for fitout, the last million is for cargo and insurance with a little bit of a buffer in case something goes titsup...

I brought one, and did some of these sort of runs, then brought a second one and stored it just in case something goes terribly wrong later on

I've got an A-rated T6 and insurance is 257.6k

id recommend you need funds for the T6 itself, biggest FSD you can get (A is 1.6mill), keep the shields too, add a fuel scoop then max out on cargo, plus insurance costs and trade cash.

On a budget, you need the 1mill for the T6, approx 100k for insurance and depending on what you trade, say 500k. If you trade Rares then you'd need less trade cash

You don't need millions for a type 6. The insurance is cheap and you don't need many upgrades, though a decent FSD is a good idea.
If you're looking to trade anyway just do a couple of rare runs in your Viper or a Hauler - you will make enough to get everything you need in no time.

If you have a short trade run worked out, stock t6 + cost of upgraded cargo slots + insurance + cost of what you are hauling should do it. As you make money you can upgrade the FSD and such accordingly.

Bear in mind that a Type 6 is only good for two things; 1. Trading & 2. Holding open fire doors.

My advice is use a Cobra as a stepping stone to a Type 6 and keep the Viper to give you the option of doing something else if you get into a grind with the trading.

I kept my Viper and my Cobra for a rainy day when I bought my Type 6.

I've just had a short run in a T6. As long as you already hace a decent trade route scouted out with reasonable jump distance, you can start in stock config without real problems. The T6 will quickly make you money to upgrade it. I found the biggest threshold was not the money to upgrade the ship, but the money to actually fill my cargo holds without going under the rebu cushion.

As the money starts to flow in, you can slowly add more stuff to the T6: a power plant to help with heat, a FSD to increase / maintain jump range and of course, cargo holds. Just remember to keep enough money in your pocket to actually fill your holds. Upgrading to 100 tonnes of space is no use if you only have 300k Cr left in your wallet. Better to keep it at around 70 tonnes and 500k Cr instead for one more circuit

I suggest having 2.5M-3.0M in the bank before purchasing the T6.

I skipped the T6, its earning potential didn't seem good enough to be worth the fuss over running rares in a cobra with a 60t hold (no shields), so that is what i did and went directly to an Asp instead.

I would get a cobra first. 4 hours of grind gets you a type 6. 4 more hours to be able to fill it. 2 hours for a upgraded FSD and Max out cargo slots. 2.5 mill and 10 hours.

It's not always going to be about earning potential. It's about making allies with factions and earning rank in whichever navy you see fit. You can definitely make allies faster with a T6 than a Cobra. You buy/sell more goods over the same given time frame.
