What would you say is the minimum to buy a T6?

insurance is for wimps and people who cant fly straight

Well sure, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Especially since there's no real rush for me to get a ship as soon as I can afford it. I'm perfectly happy with my little Viper for now :)

You dont really need to upgrade the t6 off the bat to start, although maxing the storage space as soon as possible is preferable. Out side of that I would ensure I had about 2 million to fill the sucker up with more expensive cargo and cover the insurance fees a couple of times over to get me started, there is little point buying a ship unless you can afford to make use of the extra storage.

Yeah I was planning on getting as much cargo right off the bat since I don't really want to use this ship for anything other than buying and selling stuff. So I don't want any fancy gizmos on it.

So, 3 million and change give you a good start in a Type 6. Though, being a trader and if playing in open, I'd keep a ship in storage just in case you do something silly, or someone evil comes along to ruin your day.

Yeah I was thinking I along the same lines. I could buy it right now, but if that leaves me vulnerable and without money to actually buy anything, there's really no use in getting one. And I definitely don't plan on getting rid of my Viper. The trade in value is extremely low and I will probably get back into bounty hunting anyway. Maybe if I won't need the Viper anymore if I ever make enough to buy a Viper, but even then I would keep it for sentimental reasons :)

having the credits for cargo twice will ensure that you can go on trading after death.

That's a good rule of thumb to follow, thanks :)

I've got an A-rated T6 and insurance is 257.6k

I would have thought the insurance would be pricier, but that's good to know. I really don't understand why they don't show you the insurance cost when purchasing a new ship though...

Thanks a lot for that list, that will really make it easier when I start outfitting! :)

It's about making allies with factions and earning rank in whichever navy you see fit. You can definitely make allies faster with a T6 than a Cobra. You buy/sell more goods over the same given time frame.

Does anyone know if friendly factions offer you better prices for your goods though? Because I'm friendly with the Federation right now, would it make sense to only trade at friendly stations because I would get more money for my goods?

If you're looking to trade anyway just do a couple of rare runs in your Viper or a Hauler - you will make enough to get everything you need in no time.

I have absolutely no cargo in my Viper though :) I could go for a Hauler or a Cobra first, but for some reason I don't like those ships :) Maybe because I've blown so many up bounty hunting...

Thanks everyone for your very fast replies. This community can be really helpful at times :)

I started by going up the ladder one at a time I now run a T6, which i cant figure out how to get past 68T of cargo, need some advice there. But I do now own and have stored an eagle which i have yet to see, a viper and a cobra, As soon as I reach the 1M in CR I dump 200,000 on upgrades for all of the ships, my next goal is to buy a T7 and trade in the T6. A short term goal is to rack up enough cash for the next instalments of ships and I anticipate that the game will get more intense as the new updates come on line. I am sure that the introduction of wings will radicly change the game profile, and I will try to be ready for it.

I skipped the T6, its earning potential didn't seem good enough to be worth the fuss over running rares in a cobra with a 60t hold (no shields), so that is what i did and went directly to an Asp instead.

A t-6's earning potential is far superior to running rares in a cobra.

I suggest having 2.5M-3.0M in the bank before purchasing the T6.

This is almost identical to the fit I run. However, I would recommend switching the 3D powerplant for a 2A. Lighter, better heat efficiency, and more power output(not that you need it), but about 100k more expensive. Not a big deal in my eyes, when you're spending 3 mil on a ship.

You could go with a Cobra for a few runs and then trade it in for a T6.

You can get around 50 tons of cargo into a Cobra, a few runs of that, and you will have enough for a reasonable T6.

Shieldless cobra, I like them.

Here a trader with a little more teeth:

You don't need millions for a type 6. The insurance is cheap and you don't need many upgrades, though a decent FSD is a good idea.

Agreed. You can make money trading fairly quickly with even the base model. Then use your profits to build a cushion and upgrade. That would be faster than just saving up bounties. I'd say 1.5 million is okay to start. You'll probably want to limit the cost of the goods you trade at first in this case though and keep at least 200,000 around after purchasing cargo.

If you just want to do some trading to make some credits, then this should get you going

Jump range a little limiting at 15.8, but the a grade FSD will cost 1.1 million more

as you make credits I would upgrade the Powerplant and distributor , so you can boost, boost, jump instead of having to pew pew.
