General / Off-Topic Whatever happened to Theme Park Studio?

I wonder if anyone ever remembers TPS or even has ever heard of it. I wonder what happened to it. Did anyone here ever tried the game? I was thinking this was going to be the next Park Simulator. that is of course until Planet Coaster came along.

Never played it, apart from a demo. I think the lack of money a and no financial model did'nt really take off (unlimited sand box mode) only. I just thought it was a bit pricy from a unknown developer, but prehaps people who played can tell us more.

It exists and people still play it. I see people posting pics and vids of parks they made on it from time to time on another website I'm a member of, but it never quite caught my interest enough to buy it for myself.

Me neither. As much as I like Sandbox mode and find it very important in a game I get bored with it after while and want the simulation aspect. Designing a park with set objectives keeps me in the game.

I've seen it on Steam, but the reviews for it didn't look all that well healthy - which is unfortunate. It's an interesting take on the genre, but not sure if the community will tag-on to it due to how it was designed.

I recall it being talked about on the rct subreddit a year or two back, but that's about it. [weird]

It's getting popular with Oculus Rift people but that is a very small market. After all they have to want to make parks and own a VR headset.

A lot of the reviews are out and out lies made by fanboys of rival games, especially the one that states
I purchased this game back in August 2014 and almost two years later there has been very little change.

The fact is that since August of 2014 these things have been done:
  1. Created an entirely new networked multi-player environment which allows players to host their own parks for their friends and community
  2. Completely rebuilt a new render engine for Vr.
  3. Multi-threaded the entire engine for ultra fast rendering
  4. Released almost 30 flat rides
  5. Completely replaced the environment with procedural skies and weather effects
  6. Release parks guests with AI
  7. Released an entire particle effects library, with a highly customizable particle effects editor.
  8. Released an in- game custom train builder
  9. Created a new path editor
  10. Released a custom audio library
  11. Released Vive and Oculus support
  12. Released an awesome coaster editor and coaster train library
  13. Plus much much, more.

It clearly states on the Steam page what TPS is. A lot of the negative reviews come from people who can't read or refuse to read what it says.

Personally I like it and I like Planet Coaster too, but I will NEVER buy that train wreck calledRCTW.

I was one who bought it it was never released and never will we all had a email saying it was no longer being developed it should have been released a while ago they were trying to do multiplayer on dedicated servers but that only went into trial hour sessions nothing more heard. it wasn't a simulation game it was something that you could not only build coasters but also build and make fully working flat rides it was very complicated. the idea was great but it was on kick-start program and as time went on the game got delayed as they didn't have the support like Planet Coaster. The good thing is other games have built from it like the coaster builder and pathi[squeeeeee]ng and they have been able to make the ideas work. easiest way to explain it is Planet Coaster with the flat ride Builder but no simulation if it had been developed further it would have taken RCTW a ride for its money. you can still get it I not played it for a long time

I am part of the test group and there were never any emails sent out saying that it is no longer being developed.

I Agree Paarkmaker its a pity that some of things cant be in PC now that would be a game maybe they will. I used to play it and No limits but missed the money side of things. think I might have a look at it again for looks sake. it was a good concept but it just didn't have the support to be developed further

I purchased it back in Dec 2014. Total play time...2 hours. The UI isn't very intuitive but it does feel like a really powerful tool (can't really call it a game). It probably took me 30 minutes to build a short path that looked nice, with bins, trees, benches, etc...

Definitely powerful, and could be fun for sandbox theme park generation, but certainly not easy to use. I'd probably score it about 6/10.

A lot of things changed since December 2014.

so was I and myself and son got them. thanking everyone for there support and explaining the reasons we got them . not long after we did the multiplay server tests they also said they were going to concentrate on the online development which has not been heard of since I will look on my isp server if it is still there but my isp only keeps emails for 3 months I think it was email with a short explanation then a link but we definitely had them. plus I had lots of emails from them about server testing and asking to be a tester for this as there were only a number of people aske to test the online server and they lasted a hour each session then you had to send feedback

So how does this show that it is no longer in development? I think that the fact that the developer wants feedback shows just the opposite. Frontier wants feedback on things, and we know that Planet Coaster is definitely in development. A lot of things that were added to TPS and never intended in the first place would require considerable work, especially with a much smaller team than Frontier has.

I have followed it just a bit on YouTube. I count it as one of the big 4 Coaster games of our time. Sad if its dies off. [sad]

That's par for the course. If you ever read Amazon reviews. Half of the ones are complaining that the item doesn't do something it was never meant to do.

I bought your bag of marshmallows and it wouldn't hammer in the nails I bought it for.
