What's a fun way to make money?

I'm kinda running low on cash, because I have spending issues. :p

I fancy earning some good money quickly, but not dull grind of those typical places.

I can only think of passenger missions, which are a bit on the dull side, or bounty farming.

I don't enjoy trading at all.

Any ideas?

Try smuggling. The actual kind. Find a commodity worth a lot that's legal somewhere and illegal somewhere else with a blackmarket. Take a big ship to increase the tension (and possible fee when scanned), fill it with cargo racks, slap a heat sink launcher on her, and go smuggling.
Can make you quite a lot of money, and although it is kinda like trading, you have to concentrate more on not getting spotted and avoid pancaking yourself on the station. I still do it quite often with my Anaconda, and I still find it fun.
Also because I like the hunt for those juicy routes.

The most fun I have in Elite is my salvage fitted Python. I have collector limpets and a vehicle bay depending on what I'm in the mood for. Then I'll just go into deep space and search out USS, gather engineering mats and try and fill up my cargo hold while I'm at it. The main goal really is to find grade 5 mats, but that destroys my soul, so I pretend that I'm doing freelance salvage and rescue.

The money is actually fairly terrible, but a game that you don't play because it bores you stiff is the absolute worst credits per minute. A bit of variety will keep you playing, and balance out the tedium of actual decent money making.

Define "FUN". There is no "good money quickly". If there was, everyone would do it. Welcome to the grind. o7

Like blowing up ships? Bounty Hunting!
Like the views? Exploration!
Like crime? Smuggling & Piracy!

i hear T9 have lots of low temp diamonds in cargo. could get some hattch breakers and FSD interdictor and find out. let me know - i found TWO icy asteroids with low temp diamonds - at low rate. im 94% of 1 t of low diamonds now and ran out of limpets.

I always liked rares trading. You can find routes out there for these, fit a ship with a decent discovery scanner and explore a bit as you go to top up the bank balance.

I play as a freelance scavenger, it doesnt pay well but my little dbx has 16 units of cargo with the current setup. Its not much but I drop into a uss or roam a planet and pick up what I find and sell at the nearest port. You wont get rich and it can be a bit time consuming especially if you have a lot of cargo space but its a different change of pace. With my 16 units of space I get 100k to 200k per scavenging run.

Load out your python for a mix of passengers and haulage. Work a single system to allied (or multiple systems close in, if they have good circular missions).

Make sure to take weapons, so you can kill all pirates and mission assassins along the way.

You find a good spot and you can make 50M in two or three days, easy.

Don't take too many bulk passengers at once. The mission times are so short that you stand to fail some if you get bored.

Weapons and Utilities to your liking.

I made over 50 million in one 6 hour session of passenger runs the other night. I wasn't in a Python because I couldn't afford to properly kit one out - until I made that extra 50 mil that is :) Since then I've made another few million in my brand new Python pretty much as you suggest. Hauling goods and passengers definitely is more fun when you're killing bad guys en route.

Passenger missions. Scanning missions. Ideally ensure you have friendly or above faction reputation; which you can gain doing those things. Orca is great for passenger short-range sightseeing, which can be profitable. Anything fast and nimble (Cobra or Courier are my go-to) for scanning missions.

Station barman? Wait, I got it... Space Hooker! (well, it beats washing ship windows as they stop at the lights!). ;)

It really is. And the supplemental bounty income is excellent!

P.S. If you're short on money for a Python, a T-7 with the same loadout will work just fine. You just won't be able to land at outposts.

Oh yeah, and for maximum effect, pick a group of systems in famine or outbreak, and with supplies nearby. Supplement your missions with high-value trading.
