Hardware & Technical What's a good option for a cheap, portable HOTAS stand?

I have a Logitech X56 HOTAS and I have the stick and throttle on a couple wooden stools but they're a bit too tall and the legs are too wide to give me a relaxed, comfortable position.

I've looked around at adjustable floor standing laptop and speaker stands, but most start at 36"-40", which is too tall.

I don't have the space or money for a gaming chair/HOTAS setup, and I need something I can move quickly because my PC is a music workstation and I have a synthesizer on sliders under the desk.

What is a good option for a HOTAS stand? I like the idea of using a couple adjustable height speaker or laptop stands, but most are too tall for the chair I'm using. (And of course it'll have to have a wide heavy base so it can handle space combat.

Its still not what I would consider cheap.

But the best value per $ that could do this would possibly be the Virpil deskmounts at about $50 per stand.

And for a saitek hotas you might have to jury rig an adapter plate your self, but that could be with a piece of plywood.

Or you could probably, if you feel handy, make some of your own out wood and a clamp that could run you less than half that for both.

there should be quite a few similar designs floating around out there.

At 17.7" height (20x20 W/L) This is the lowest table I found. Bought two. Works great with the Playseat Challenger. Very light. Also use kitchen shelf/drawer non-slip liners so the HOTAS stays in place.

Depends how much time you have available. I planned to make an entire simpit out of MDF and bathroom tubing. The materials are chaep, easy to work with (a Dremel or equivalent, a few screws and some bathroom sealant would cover everything) lightweight and can be painted up to give a suitable 80's sci-fi look with a few silver and black rattle cans. Time, alas, is not my friend. In the end, after much procrastinating, I just threw money at a manufactured pit.

You could make a bespoke stand for very little outlay, at exactly the right height for you, compact enough to tidy away when you're not using it. But it would take a bit of planning, some trial and error and a few clear evenings or weekends to do it right.

Or you could bite the bullet and splash out for a manufactured solution. I used these guys: https://www.pagnian.co.uk/product-category/all-racing-and-simulator-products/

I found some laptop stands that IKEA sells, that are pretty popular with flight simmers, and can be mounted with industrial Velcro. You can do a google image search of “ikea HOTAS stand” and there are a lot of pictures. It’s a simple solution, and looks pretty nice, and I can move them easily if I need to work on my computer.
