What's a good program to capture video?

I'm looking for a free, small-footprint video capture program that I can use to make video of my coaster. I have a GTX 970 but my rig itself isn't bleeding edge, so I hope to find something that won't completely kill my frame rate.

In related news, my Alien: Derelict themed coaster is about 90% complete just as Alien: Covenant hits theaters! Alien: Derelict features parts of the Nostromo, a reconstruction of Hadley's Hope, Loaders and APCs from Aliens, corridors and the massive egg chamber from a derelict ship, and a faithful recreation of the Space Jockey and its chamber, as well as messages from MUTHR, the computer from the Nostromo.

I'm psyched to record video of the coaster and share it!

I use Plays.tv. I think it works really well.
You will need to change some settings though if you use it. They recently brought in an update that puts a watermark in the corner of the video. You don't want that obviously, so you'll have to change that in the settings.
I'm not sure what the defaults are for recording but you can change the screen resolution, frame rate for capturing and it will record automatically when a game begins playing.

I CURRENTLY have no complaints with OBS. But quality varies. It updates frequently and some work better than others. But if there are problems, they're usually gone again in the next day or 2.

I just use nvidia's built in one and improved the quality settings. The shortcut key for me to record is alt+F9 and alt+g opens it up. I think alt+z might be the default key.

Thanks guys.

Nvidia's GeForce Experience is a lousy piece of software. The "Share" button (which replaced Shadowplay) was missing on mine, so I downloaded a massive update, installed, restarted...and GeForce Experience opens as a blank window. It's got the main skin in gray and NVidia at the top, but the entire window is blank -- no buttons, no games listed, nothing.

GeForce Experience has always been shaky, and I really don't feel like taking hours trying to figure out how to get it working, so I'm trying OBS now. Thanks for the recommendation, I hope this one works.

Cheers

Yeah, it really is a bad program. When it runs, my gpu drivers keep crashing.. I didn't know shadowplay was replaced by the G-force experience share thing.

that happened to me on both computers, immediately after upgrading windows.
i reinstalled geforce exp and restarted the computer and it all worked again.
windows upgrade also broke many of my other 'internet login' applications, they also had to be reinstalled and/or reset their settings.

Do you mean good software to video record game plays for Planet Coaster or other PC games? I have an intel core i7-6700k and a gtx 1070. Nvidia's Shadow Play is very good. I also have a Hauppauge HD PVR2 which captures xbox 360 and xbox one and ps4 pro and pc gameplay and share videos to youtube.

Yeah, software. I can't get GeForce Experience's recording feature to work properly so I've been using OBS, but the quality isn't so good.

Maybe I will find some really good video producers and offer my audio/mixing services in exchange for a decent capture of my coaster and park.

I use X-Split Broadcaster. It allows you to stream and record. Just set up hotkeys for the different things you want to do (Local Record, YouTube Stream, Twitch Stream, Screenshot etc) and away you go. It also allows you to add overlays.

There is X-Split Gamecaster as well, but I'm not sure how that works.

I use Cyber Link Power Director 14 for my editing. Far more cheaper than rip off Sony Vegas. And Cyber Link regularly has massive sells like 60% off. So instead of paying like US$500 like what Sony Vegas software charges, I paid max NZ$92 for Cyber Link Power Director 14. The 15th version is their latest, by the 14th version is still good. It has picture n picture, and you can overlay images music and videos. It's also easy to use too. The latest version of Sony Vegas I think costs like NZ$799. Adobe is expensive too. Something like AU$30/MONTH. My Hauppauge HD PVR2 uses Hauppauge software. But Windows 10 Updates by Microsoft mucks up and screws up the audio. And Hauppauge doesn't really update their software, definitely not as much as Microsoft.

As for Nvidia Shadowplay thingy, it's surprisingly very good! Maybe your computer isn't very powerful? My GPU is the EVGA GTX 1070 SC clocked to 1888Mhz, 16GB DDR4, and an i7-6700k @ 4.2Ghz.

Shadowplay used to be brilliant on my machine but the latest geforce experience screwed up on installation (forced updates brrrr). Now I can't even get it to install correctly it fails no matter what I do. I've tried removing all drivers and various workarounds but having no luck. Last choice was to reinstall windows but I really didn't want to do that just so I can record gameplay.

I switched over to OBS which was free. Quick and easy to set up. You can set a shortcut quite easily to start / stop recording and the quality seems quite good!

I use the NVidia GeForce Experience one. If you have an NVidia card its a really fantastic recorder , And it handles FPS really well, Most times it seems to record at HD or ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎ close to it lol
