What's a Pilot to Do? (Fighters)

Someone has to have tried this, so I'm curious...

1. If I opt to fly my fighter myself, can I request docking and/or land it at a station or outpost? Or does it just tick off the outpost and give me a loitering fine for trying.

2. If I have a fighter out and about at a station or outpost, and don't recall it, does it come in to land, or buzz around outside the station or outpost? This I really need to know, because it's not unusual for me to bring pirate hoards to outposts demanding my cargo of 4 worthless rubber hoses they don't need anyways, and I've been shot landing on pads plenty of times. Not so much an issue at stations, they get maybe one shot before the station reduces them to a hail of rubble, but outposts - I've never seen one fire anything, and I've had to abort more than few landings to beat these guys down. If my fighter can fend them off while I take care of business, that would be great.

3. And in reference to #1 - if I initiate auto-docking and then switch to my fighter while the computer lands my ship what happens then?

I'd rather not experiment on the live servers, and I'm not willing to pay to beta test, that's just silly.

Your ship cannot land or deploy landing gear with a Fighter Deployed.

And I'll take that to mean that a fighter can also not be deployed while landing gear are down.

But what about trying to land the fighter itself? Are they incapable of landing?
