Whats after the Type 6

Hi All

I own a type 6 with 104 cargo capacity and half a million in the bank.

Is the next step back to the Cobra, max it out and do assassination missions? or a new ship? It seems I would need millions for the next one.

Are we getting all the old Empire ships from Frontier?

Either an ASP or a Type-7 would be the next upgrade. T7 if you plan on trading and a ASP if you want to do a bit of everything.

T7 or Clipper.

Totally agree with you T-7 or Clipper...

ASP will offer you just a bit more cargo space than you have used to, so when the time comes for you to sell it you will lose 600k+ credits due to the 10% loss..

If you are in Imperial Space and you have a few ranks, just get the prereqs and go for Imperial Clipper...it is better than T-7 in various ways.... I've recently made a post explaning the benefits here

Type 7 for trade (17 M) or Imperial Clipper (22M + rank required) or the new Vulture (22M estimated) if you're going down a combat/bounty/piracy path.

With the Type 6 you can make between 1700-2200 per ton profit on a good return trade run, so 60-100 trips (if you do nothing else) will net you the millions required. I would suggest a few missions though, as these will get you reputation and rank with the local faction and can be profitable, as well as making the game more interesting than simple there-and-back trade runs. The rank then allows you to buy a Dropship (Ensign) in the Federation and an Imperial Clipper (Baron) in the Empire.

You won't achieve this in a few hours. Take your time and enjoy the game. Trade in different locations each day - the prices fluctuate, so you are better off doing this. You'll be in Clipper or Vulture before you know it!

Does piracy pay? I could go back to the Cobra and be a pirate.

The Federation hate me anyway

Right now, there are two ways to progress as a trader. You can go with straight function, where the cycle is Hauler->Type 6->Type 7->Type 9, or you can go for a multipurpose route, which is Hauler->Cobra->Type 6->Type 7<=>Clipper->Type 9<=>Python->Anaconda.

17 million means about 200 trade runs to afford the t7.

I don't have that level of patience lol

Where do people keep getting 20m+ from for the Vulture seriously? There isn't a single ship in the game that has near identical hull & fitting costs. 20m for the hull but 20m for the A class fittings?

Fitting a ship out will always cost more than the hull itself, and that's why the Vulture won't be anywhere near 20m credits. Just sayin :p

Well, it's your only next step as a trader.
There is nothing between.

If you're not a trader, you really should have said so instead of asking what's next after a trade ship.
So, what are you?

We need to know what you want to do, before we can recommend as ship.

I didn't say I was a trader, I'm not anything, I hope between roles.

6 million to the ASP is about 70 trade runs of silver for me. Or I could use my type 6 to get the money for a Cobra maxed out for pirating/assassination/bounty hunting. The bounty hunting doesn't generate that much. How do pirating the evil Federation or assassination missions fair? Can I do them in a maxed out Cobra without needing Uber fighter pilot skills and earn large amounts of cash?

The choice really is yours to make - that's the beauty in the game.

Here's some options for you.

1. use the Type-6 as a trader, to get credits for...
a. A viper, then fully kit it out for Bounty Hunter/Assasination
b. A cobra, same thing

Should be less than a million credits for each of above

2. Use built up your credits for an Asp... then
a. kit it out for trading and get more cash
b. kit it out for exploration and go explore stuff
c. kit it out for combat and have a blast

the Asp will cost about 6 million, then kitting it out will cost. In total mine cost me about 30 million for ship and outfitting.

3. use your Type-6 to save up for a Type-7
It will cost about 17 million credits then you'll need to do some outfitting.

Those are some choices, I'm sure there are more.

The real question is..... What do you want to do?

Yes, its a good cash cow.

When I was bounty hunting in my last ship (the Cobra) it was hard generating more than 200,000 per hour. I can see the type-6 gets me 85,000 in one trade run of silver. If I buy a Cobra I would use the income to fund the ship.

So if I get a Cobra, what's the pay like for piracy or assassination missions and is a maxed out Cobra the best ship for them?

Assassinations pay 150k+, but you're going to fight Elite Anacondas.
A maxed out Viper would be better for that.

After having a viper in the past the thought of the above seems like sending an ant against an elephant. Is a maxed out viper that good?
Anybody tried being a pirate in a cobra? How much is a normal theft run?

It's currently the best combat vessel. It got stronger shields than a Cobra.
Just stay on the conda's tail or use reverse tactics.

And what kind of piracy are you referring to? Player or NPC?
I doubt it's very profitable either way, but it's fun.

cliper sucks,
Was
honestly repair costs for cliper are insanely high for traders and loss of 10% 2.2 mills when u decide to rid of it. Was in cliper less than one day, it was not for me as I trade without shields, so was in t7 sold it 1.9 mills loss, got cliper, sold it 2.2 mills loss, now again in t7, when 1.2 comes alive ah again loss 1.9 mills.
